Kichwa Tembo or Ilkekiani

I am spending 3 nights in the Mara in mid August and have the option of Kichwa Tembo tented camp or Ilkekiani camp. Does anyone here prefer one over the other? Is one in a better location in August? I know that Kichwa is larger (actually size is of little concern to us), but outside of the Mara so night drives or other activities might be possible. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I stayed at Ilkeliani in October 2005 and thought it was AWESOME.
But since then I have heard they have changed management and quality has gone down. It would be a real bummer if the quality hasn't come back up.

The location was great. We got into the park very quickly from the site. To see the interior of our tent, watch the video at:

I know nothing about Kichwa Tembo

Location wise, I don't think it makes a big difference either way.

Ilkeliani is also outside of the reserve but I don't believe they offer night drives. We enjoyed our stay there in Nov 2005. There was one negative review from Aug 2006 and I haven't seen anything else since.

I haven't stayed at Kichwa Tembo.

I loved Kichwa Tembo. It was a quick trip out for game drives and we did night drives. I thought it was fabulous, but have no knowledge of Ilkekiani camp.

Kichwa Tembo has redesigned their tent configurations, now with 28 classic safari tents and 12 new luxury safari tents.

The 12 ensuite luxury safari tents offer superb views of the Sabaringo River. With glamorous polished wooden floors, each tent is beautifully furnished with a comfortable king size bed and down duvets with extra large pillows. The elegant interiors boast leather and canvas finishes in traditional safari chic!

The ensuite stone-walled bathroom includes a separate shower and separate flush w.c. These tents are distanced from each other to allow for maximum privacy and intimacy. They have electricity (with plug points, hairdryers and in-room safe.

Note: the luxury tents come at a premium price, about $50/person/nt higher than the classic tents.

Do the standard tents have hair dryers at Kichwa Tembo. I would like to leave mine at home, if possible.
