Kichwa Tembo

Can anyone give me some input on the Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp. This is half the price of the Bateleur and I was wondering about the quality of this as opposed to Little Governors.

We stayed here about a week ago, for three nights. I didn't see the other two that you mentioned but I can tell you about this one. It was a very nice tented room, with a good bathroom and shower inside, most of the rooms had two double beds, great porch with a fabulous view of the wildlife which includes a very friendly family of warthogs that live inside the fence! We loved that they would bring you coffee, tea and cookies in the morning with your wake up call. The food was very good in the dining room. If I were rating it I would call it a 3 1/2 * property. Some people that we met who couldn't get into Bateleur went over to have a look and said for the money difference they were glad that they stayed here.

stayed in August at LG. It was great. Have not been to the other camps but we sure enjoyed our stay, especially being on the marsh. Would highly recommend.

I've stayed at Little Governors, and loved it....stayed at Bateleur also. Bit more luxurious, but, i'm sure Kichwa main is good also. The only reason i stayed at Bateleur was that, main camp was full....

Thanks all.

I think I will go with the Tented.
I had enjoyed Londolozi and Phinda in South africa so wanted to stay with cc africa in the main. The cost of some of their properties has really gone up though so I was reworking the budget!

Kichwa Tembo (40 tents) compares to Governors Main Camp (36 tents) in terms of size. It cannot be compared to Little Governors (17 tents)!

It is a fenced camp just outside the Mara. Location-wise, the Governor's Camps have the edge.

It is cheaper because it is bigger and less exclusive. It is popular with larger groups which I personnally try to avoid. Only some tents have views (somewhat limited) into the Mara (actually the airstrip area). Most tents are set amongst the trees with no view.

It also has chalets so be sure to get a tent if you want one! A few years ago our game drives there were restricted to 2 per day and the cars had 6 people because the camp was full. It may be different when they have fewer guests and more available cars.

Everything considered, the Serena is probably better value for money IMO.

Bateleur tents are semi-canvas, meaning you will have a proper door and the back of each tent is a combination of wood, cement and canvas. Overall, the while setup is more luxurious with more personal attention and perks such as day-long game drives, bush picnics and more. And fewer people which is always good - but yes it is expensive. I think Little Govs or IlMoran offer better value for money when considering their locations.

We were on a priviate safari so I don't know if this is the norm. Our guide used their 4x4's and our driver was Joseph, who was just great and enjoyed staying out.
We wwre up at 6 and they brought coffee and cookies, we left the camp by 6:30. We did a drive until about 9 at which time we had a HUGE bush breakfast. Joseph had made us fresh coffee and tea and we had a bag of food : sandwich, two peices of fruit, an egg, yogart, nuts, and a muffin or cookies...I think there was more too. We then stayed out until at least 12:30, sometimes 1:30, back just in time for lunch, but who was hungry? We left again at 4 and were out until 6:30. This area was my favorite with tons of viewing and I'm glad that we had all those hours out there.
The link with the pictures that "climb" refers to shows exactly what the place looked like. I have to disagree with only a few rooms have a view, ours and our friends and many others had a great view.
