My first thought is that this is a very fast paced itinerary with a lot of spent on the road. Nairobi-Samburu, Samburu-Nakuru, Nakuru-Mara will all be about 6 hours each and Mara-Amboseli is about 10 hours. I'll let others advise on the Tanzania drive times but I would eliminate stop(s) or add flight(s) if you don't have more than 14 days.

Day 4: 25/7/2010
Nakuru
Depart Nairobi

It seems that you should be departing Samburu if you had overnighted there and will end up in Nakuru.

I agree with Patty. Too much driving on roads with few photo ops and not enough time for taking pictures in the parks.

Depending on what time of year you are going, 2 nights in the Mara or 2 nights in the Serengeti is not enough. One night in Tarangire is not enough.

If your goal is photography, pick fewer places and stay longer.

Sorry to be so negative. You can arrange a great trip in 14 days. When do you wish to go?

I agree with Patty and atravelynn - too many places, too much driving for 14 days.

If budget isn't a concern try to do a fly-in safari and limit the areas you are visiting.

Time of the year is also important to know.

2 nights Nairobi (in/outbound one each)
3 nights Samburu or Amboseli
3 nights Massai Mara
3 nights Serengeti
1 night Ngorongoro
2 nights Tarangire

Grenerally speaking: If you are keen on wildlife photography you should stay 3 nights in each camp/lodge.

The itinerary you have got is doable but an awful lot of driving changing places and not so much wildlife photography.

Inform on budget and time and you will receive lots of input.

Happy planning!

hh253, to go off topic for a moment...I looked at your photos. Fantastic! I am in the market for a new camera set up. Can you please tell me what camera and lenses you have? Thanks.

I just checked out some of the galleries too. Fantastic work. If you were able to obtain these images on previous whirlwind trips and you like to capture images from a variety of places, then maybe the above itinerary is not as bad as I thought.

I think the answer to whether this is a good trip or not lies within those albums. On the trips that produced those photos, how long did you remain in various locations, what pace was the trip, was it group, or solo? Whatever you have been doing in the past to produce such good results is a winning formula.

Just back from looking at your photos too - wow! I particularly loved the Namibia ones. Like sdtravels, would love to know about your camera & lenses, and agree totally with Lynn that if a whirlwind trip can result in these photos, then your itinerary can be as slow or as hectic as you please!

many thanks for your comments and suggestions. The photos were made on a truck trip with 21 people and there was no special consideration for my desire to take photos. We travelled in three weeks from the Victoria falls to Cape Town.
I use a Nikon D700 and a 24-85 and a 70-300 lens.
This time I decided to spend more money (about 3.500 $ per person) and to have just a car for us during the trip and to decide when, where and how long to stop.
The period is from 20th July to 14th August.
After the Safari we want to go to Zanzibar. Any place you cab suggest? Thanks

We travelled in three weeks from the Victoria falls to Cape Town.

In that case, this might be a slower paced trip in comparison!

Wonderful photos!

Your time frame is 26 days. Back off 4 for international travel. Take 5 for Zanzibar. Maybe even 4 would be ok.
26-9 = 17

If you start and end in NBO, don't know where you would put Zanzibar. Maybe after Tarangire you could head to Zanzibar, then back to NBO for your return flight.

Here is your itinerary with 17 nights.

I added one between Samburu and Nakuru, one more in the Mara and one more in Tarangrie.

Day 1 : 22/7/2010
Nairobi
Arrival at Airport and Transfer Kenya Comfort Hotel B/B

Day 2: 23/7/2010
Samburu
Depart Nairobi for samburu arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge

Day 3: 24/7/2010
Samburu
Full day in samburu with morning and afternoon game drive (optional visits to samburu villages). All meal and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge

Day 4: 25/7/2010
Stop at Sweetwaters or Serena Mountain Lodge

Day 5: 26/7/2010
Nakuru
Depart in the morning and drive to the Great Rift Valley viewing sceneries enroute, arriving in time for Lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge, in the afternoon explote the Pink Lake often referred so due to it's Great masses of Flamingos with numerous Animals back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 6: 27/7/2010
Maasai Mara

Morning game drive, Watch and photograph Birds and Animals , breakfast and depart for Maasai Mara, Arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive is taken. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge

Day 7: 28/7/2010
Maasai Mara
Full day in Maasai Mara. Morning and afternoon game drive, In the afternoon visit Maasai Homesteads know as Maasai Manyatta. All meals wil be served at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 8: 29/7/2010
Mara Sopa

Day 9: 30/7/2010

Depart Lodge with packed lunch drive through the reserve viewing game as you proceed to Amboseli via Nairobi, arriving there late afternoon, proceed into the Amboseli park with the possibility of seeing game on our way to the Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
(To avoid 10 hours of driving, you could fly back to NBO from the Mara, then drive to Amboseli or maybe even catch another flight to Amboseli. If you flew to Amboseli you could do game drives on a shared basis at your lodge. I’d go to Ol Tukai instead of Sopa.)

Day 10: 31/7/2010
Amboseli
Whole day spent in the park viewing game in this second most popular park in Kenya. Here you have a good opportunity to see all the 'Big Five' (I don’t think you have a good opportunity to see The Big 5, though Amboseli is a lovely park with lots of eles and perhaps views of Kili, as stated) and a variety of other game with the snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro - the highest in Africa - in the background and also visiting the Maasai village to catch a glimpse of their way of life. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge or Ol Tukai, as mentioned above.

Day 11 1/8/2010
Amboseli - Arusha
Depart Amboseli after breakfast, drive to Namanga Boarder where you will board Shuttle Bus to Arusha at 1030Hrs, Proceed with the Journey to Arusha via Namanga Boarder where you will attain Visa to Tanzania at rate of 50USD Per Person BUT for Americans it 100USD Per Person. Serengeti
Full day in Serengeti. Morning and afternoon game drives in the rolling grasslands studded with wildlife for as far as the eye can see National Park. All meals and overnight at Seronera Wildlife Lodge

Day 15: 5/8/2010
Ngorongoro
Depart Serengeti after Breakfast Drive to Ngorongoro with packed Lunch, Descend to the Crater explore the Crater until late afternoon, Drive to the Lodge for Dinner and Overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge

Day 16: 6/8/2010
Tarangire
Early Morning drive, back to the Lodge for Breakfast later depart from the Park, drive to Tarangire arriving there in time for Lunch at the Lodge, In the afternoon have a game drive at the Park, Dinner and Overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge

Day 17: 7/8/2010
Tarangire

Day 18: 8/8/2010

Depart after breakfast to Arusha then board Afternoon Shuttle bus back to Nairobi arriving approx 1830hrs.Drop at the Hotel or Airport to board th fight back home

Generally, if someone is going to Kenya and Tanzania in July or August, the preference is to head to Tanzania first. That is because the migration is heading from Tanzania to Kenya.

You could simply reverse what you have, but a good itinerary saves the Maasai Mara for the end because more wildebeest and zebra will be there with each day later into the dry season. Also it is nice to have one of the trip highlights at the end.

Below would be a suggestion that puts Tanzania first. To fit in a 17-18 nt time frame, a couple of flts might be needed, which would increase the cost.

1 arrive nbo
2 shuttle to arusha, then to tarangire
3 tarangire
4 manyara
5 crater
6 Seronera region of Serengeti
7 Sereonera region of Serengeti
8 fly back to Arusha, fly to NBO and o/nt in NBO
9 Amboseli
10 Amboseli
11 drive back to NBO, then to Aberdare or Mt. Kenya (that would be about 7.5 hours on the road)
12 Samburu
13 Samburu
14 Lake Nakuru (a long drive—if you stopped at Sweetwaters or Serena Mountain Lodge on the way between Samburu and Nakuru, that would break things up, but it would put you up to 18 nts)
15 Mara
16 Mara
17 Mara
18 Back to NBO and home

Hi Atravelynn,

many thanks for your time and suggestions. O have some question
- why you suggest Ol Tukai
- if migration is taking place from the south to north I will see it anyhow in Serengeti or Mara, because really we want to stay after the safari in Zanzibar and not before
- driving from one national park to the other one you have villages, as i like also to take pictures of people

Thanks again for your suggestions

Heinz

Ol Tukai is well situated inside the park on the edge of the swamps. Sopa is some distance outside of the park to the east.

You can fly to Zanzibar from NBO at the end of either itinerary.

Patty answered most. You will encounter people and villages between parks. Enthusiasm by the residents for being photographed runs the gamut. There are also villages that welcome photographers and visitors for a fee and taking picutres are encouraged.

The bus drive from Arusha to Dar es Salaam is interesting and 2 days Dar es Salaam are ok? Which places you suggest in Zanzibar, not too expensive. I was thinking to stay two days in Stonetown and 2 or 3 days on a baech.
Thanks
