Kenya in August
Hi I've been reading all your posts and have picked up great information from here.
We are going to Kenya in August. We fly Emirates to Nairobi, spend 2 days with friends in NBO. We are taking Acrossafrica safaris. Has anyone travelled with them?
Ark 1 night
Shaba 2 nights (will stay at the Sarova Shaba)
Mt. Kenya club 1 night
Lake Nakuru 1 Night (sarova Lodge)
Masai Mara 3 nights (sarova)
NBO 5 nights (with friends)
The kids are 14years and 9 years old. So hopefully they have a great time. We chose the month of August coz of migration even though its expensive.
I'd like to know from people who have travelled in August. How cold will it be and what warm cloathes does one carry?
I'll keep you all informed... and perhaps come up with some more questions.
Thanks

I have been on safari twice in Kenya, both times in August, and it was warm enough during the day to swim. At night, I may have worn a long-sleeved shirt, but I didn't need a jacket. If you get chilly, you may want to bring a light sweater for the evenings. I wore shorts on most of my safari drives.

I'm a late July or August traveler also. I tend to get much colder than the average person so I bring a couple of layers that can be peeled off as the day grows warmer. One time in 2001 I hit a cold snap and was glad for those extra layers. Especially when the top is open, the rushing cold air is chilly.
As Thit Cho suggests also pack a swim suit for midday, especially for kids.
That's good you have 3 nights in the Mara.
Not familiar with Acrossafrica.

I concur with previous posters. During the day from about nine o'clock on it should be great in the 70's to low 80's. However, in the evening it can get pretty cool. Remember, the lodges and tented camps aren't insulated or heated. Thus I would advise taking either heavy sweatshirts or fleece jackets to wear in the evening and for very early morning game drives because it can go down to around 45 - 50 at night, and it can also be breezy.
You and your kids will have a fantastic time.

Thanks to all of you for the info.....its a good idea to carry a fleece esp. for the kids.
We can't wait till August.....it seems so far away. This is our first trip to Africa.
