International flight to domestic flight at Ben Gurion Airport

I scheduled a flight to Eilat after arriving from the US on a Monday evening. I am nervous that I did not leave enough time to make my flight to Eilat. We will be traveling with carry-ons only. We arrive in Tel Aviv from US at 5:10. Our flight for Eilat departs at 7:30pm. How long will it take through Customs. As a US citizen do I need to get a VISA to visit ahead of time. Anything else I can do to make the process go more smoothly? How far are the terminals?

If everything goes according to schedule you will make it but you are cutting it very tight - you will save time by not having baggage to wait for but you will have to take the shuttle from Terminal 3 to terminal 1.

US citizens are issued a tourist visa on arrival in Israel.

Assume an hour from arrival until you get out of Terminal 3. Then you have to wait for the shuttle bus to take you to Terminal 1 - assume half an hour. This leaves you less than an hour to go through security (again) and board - less than what the airline recommends. The big IF is whether your flight arrives on time and from my experience meeting planes a significant percentage arrive 15-30 minutes later than scheduled. I would take a later flight to Eulat and not be worried or pressured.

how does one simplify going through security? Questions,no-no's why does one have to go through security again - different terminals? So arriving via LHR on EL AL make any difference? Buy your gin in Israel rather duty free in London? There seems to be many nice hotels near Petra. Easy transport to these hotels? The hotel rates seem to be 1/2.Does Desert Eco handle the cross border paperwork ? Sorry about all these questions. Thanks

Everyone has to go through security on domestic flights. Look at the website of the airline you book (Arkia or Israir) for their recommendation for when you should arrive in advance of departure.

You arrive at Terminal 3 and the Eilat flight leaves from Terminal 1. There is a shuttle bus service. You can see from the timetable that you have allow about 30 min for waiting and riding on the shuttle:

Post your questions regarding Petra (transportation and hotels) on the Jordan forum.
