I trip to forget the last 12 years.
I need to take a trip for sanitys sake. Will be traveling with 11 year old twins. Would like to take this trip in late June. I would like to go somewhere peaceful, in Africa preferebly. No TV, no phones. Just somewhere to forget the last 12 years of my life; and to get myself together and enjoy the company of my children. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Take a look at this: http://www.kerdowneybotswana.com/guide_paul.html
I don't know whether Paul is still involved with this (he was one of my guides at Selinda) or indeed whether Young Explorers is still on offer. But it does sound as if it might suit you and your twins down to the ground.

First of all, sorry for the reason behind your interest in traveling to Africa. I hope you and your children have an enjoyable time together this summer, whatever you do.
June is cutting it close, so you would want to start moving on a trip right away.
That Ker & Downey program looked interesting.
If you wanted something where no malaria prevention was needed, you’d likely want South Africa.

Many families opt for just taking malaria prevention (usually in the form of a daily pill) which expands their safari options to many other countries and regions.
Here are some family programs that have been looked into by Fodorites in the past. The companies listed would also do private safaris for you that could incorporate elements of the family trip, plus anything else you want.

With 11 year olds, I think you would either need to go on a group family safari or do a private trip. I don’t think most camps/lodges mix youngsters of that age and random adults in the same vehicle.
Here is a Fodors link about a “clueless Mom planning a safari”

Here’s another parent who is having trouble sorting through the family safari options:

Good luck and please post the progress of your trip planning.

Can I make a suggestion why not spend some time at Makoa farm in the foothills of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It's like Noah's Ark with loads and loads of animals, horses to ride, dogs, cats, owls everything and gorgeous accomodation with the best views anywhere. If your children like animals ( and most do ) its a little bit of heaven. After that you can easily transfer to the normal safari destinations in Tanzania. We did a mobile safari with Nomad and you couldn't get much more remote than that, but with brilliant company from like minded fellow travellers. Sorry life's been hard... Yvonne
