Honeymoon in Southern Africa
Hello all - I am getting married in September 2007 and we are looking to take our honeymoon in Southern Africa. Neither of us has ever been and we are finding the sheer amount of information on the internet to be somewhat overwhelming - so, I thought I would cut to the chase and go directly to those in the know. Your thoughts, comments and expertise are greatly appreciated!
The current vision (subject, of course, to change and improvement) is a trip that would include some relaxing time at a luxury spa/resort on a beach (perhaps near cape town, which we hear is a good place to explore), followed by time at one or two game parks. Here we are most interested in the animals, geography, etc., BUT if we could get that and still stay at one of those beautiful zen lodges with the private pool and terrace that opens directly into the wilderness, that would be perfection (e.g. Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, Luangwa River Lodge, etc.). We have also heard about viewing animals/the landscape from hot air balloons and helicopters - land rover seems to be the way to really see things, but I would be interested in whether either of the other two are a worthwhile experience.
Again, appreciate any and all thoughts, comments, recommendations and guidance as we begin to plan our adventure!

Congratulations on the wedding!!! Plenty of luxuary options in Botswana. Super lux options there would include Mombo,Kings Pool,Jao and Vumbura Plains...can't go wrong with any of them, i would imagine....Mombo would be one of the best locations for game viewing.
In the Sabi Sands....they have some great luxuary options (Singita, Londolozi, Mala Mala, Sabi Sabi, Simbambilli) etc etc., options aplenty.

We had our honeymoon in Southern Africa this past September. It was fantastic.
You can read my trip report. Click on my nickname and then click on "Bridezilla's trip report..."
We did Victoria Falls, Cape Town, King's Camp (safari) and Mauritius.
Congrats on the engagement!

Congratulations! My husband and I went to Botswana and South Africa in July. While in Cape Town, we stayed at the Mount Nelson which we loved. In Botswana, we stayed in the three Orient Express lodges and did a 45-minute helicopter flight over the Okavango. Phenomenal experience - if you have the opportunity, I would recommend that you take it. It was especially fun because it offered a different perspective from the boat rides and mokoro of a water-based camp.
Good luck in your planning!

We are getting married in March and going to south africa. Our itinerary starts at out Plettenberg Bay which is a resort waterside so we can relax for a few days. Then we head to the wineries for 4 nights and then Cape Town for 3 and off to Singita. We are so excited and can't wait. We used a company called go2africa which has been great.
