HELP!any info on camera batteries please

My batteries for my camera seem to take very few pictures before losing power, Is it because I keep looking at the LCD screen to see what they are like after I have taken them.I have a panasonic lumix fz50 at the moment I am just playing around with it, But it seems to lose power very very quickly I am a bit worried I may have to take many batteries will I have a prob with charging them? Has anyone any experience with this camera.
Any feedback welcome as Im beginning to panic and regret buying it.Help!

When I looked into the model previous to this (as a point and shoot backup) I recall that it LiIon battery it came with was rated at about 300 images (including short review times on the LCD screen). I decided on another make but found that all of the point and shoots had a similar capacity. Most likely you have a bad battery but it could also be your battery charger. A bad battery charges is far less likely. For a camera such as yours, I would estimate that you should plan on using two batteries per day and be able to get t hrough two days without recharging = total of four batteries. Usually the most inexpesive way of accomplishing this would be to buy aftermarket batteries. Try looking at DPReview (on the Web) and doing a search on their Panasonic forum for your camera and battery. It's a popular camera and share battery type with earlier models so you shouldn't have a problem. Another trick that might help is to go into your menu options (on the camera) and eliminate auto review times following taking a picture. You can still review your images but you avoid wated review time when your not actually looking at the LCD. Hope you can use some of this info. good luck

Almost sounds like the short battery life when these cameras first came on market - 10/yrs ago. Not familiar with your specific camera, but my first thought - bad battery.

How many batteries do you have? Is it just one? Could be a bad battery, like sandi said. But if two or three all do it, then probably not. Make sure you are leaving the battery(s) in the charger long enough, try 8 hours as an experiment. Turn off the automatic review LCD like safarichuck recommends. Not necessary to have it on and with it off it will speed up your picture taking capability. Having it on is my first guess as to what your problem likely is. Next likely, bad battery.
For sure you will need to take three batteries on safari.

I have the same camera and used it constantly on our trip to Botswana and Zambia. I found the battery to have a long life, so perhaps there is something wrong with your battery. I took an extra battery so we always had a charged battery in the camera and an extra one on hand at all times. We previewed our pictures every night and recharged when necessary.

I just bought this camera and have not even opened it up as yet. I posted some questions earlier on another thread asking opinions about it. I purchased it because I liked the feel as it seems the closest to a dSLR . Those who have used it how is the response time between shots with the LCD screen off. I am going to keep it off unless I am changing settings as I do not want to be totally focused on the camera but more on the experience. My husband will be using a video camera.

Tell me why you chose this one over the Canon, Sony or Olympus.

I had a similar problem. Cleaning the terminals of the batteries solved it.

Thanks to all that responded to my problem
I have been working very long hours as of late but will be trying out all the tips you have so generously given I will let you know what worked. I have 3 batteries one that came with the camera and two cheaper brands but there seems no difference between them. In answer to Spiegelcjs I chose the camera for much the same reason you did, I'm afraid I am no camera buff and did'nt have a technical reason for my choice.
