Guided Tour of Pyramids & Egypt Museum - Please recommend!

Hi there,

I'd like to book a guided tour for two of the Giza Pyramids for late September, followed by a tour of the Egypt Museum the following day.

I'd really like to know your recommendations of a good tour guide/company to use. There are so many available, it would be great to get some feedback.

Hoping for a reasonable price and we're not bothered if we have to join in with others. Ideally, we'd like to try and avoid going to their cousin's shops if we can!

We also plan on seeing the sound and light show.

Thanks in advance!!!

A very popular tour guide is Casual Cairo. I don't have her web address handy but if you google Casual Cairo you should find her. She is an American who has lived in Cairo for many years and she is highly recommended by many people on this board. It's best to email her and get prices.

There is a web site at www.cruisecritic.com which is geared for cruisers, but has pretty good info about ports of call with guides and excursions. If you go to the web site and click on boards, there will be lots of choices that come up. Towards the bottom is ports of call and if you click on Africa/Middle East there are lots of people who posted about the different tour companies.

Thanks everyone that recommended us to this gentleman/lady, but FYI because Ramadan is coinciding exactly with the month of September this year and will be moving into the HOTTER, LONGER days of summer from here on out for the next 15+ years, we've made the decision to close down during Ramadan and allow our Muslim staff to have the time off to observe their most holy month. It is my opinion that fasting (NO eatting, NO drinking, and NO cigarettes) for a 13+ hour day is going to make touring difficult at best during the Ramadan period and when we can't give our best under these circumstances, I would prefer to take the time off.

Ramadan Kareem to one and all and we hope to see you after September.

Debbie, What a great idea! You know that daylight savings time ends tonight (Thursday the 28th, don't you? And your clients -- do they know, too? I missed a trip (nonrefundable) here b/c I didn't know that Egyptian DST does not mirror America's DST.

sunshine.....the DST change is NOW???? I always remembered it being a little different than in the US (had to remember when to/not to call my mother), but it was only a difference of a couple of months!!!! This is incredibly earlier than usual, isn't it????

Yes indeed, it started ;ast night. It would have changed in the middle of Ramadan. I think the decisiion had to do with the added difficulty of time change during Ramadan and also having Iftar at 6:30. I'm told it makes a psychological difference.

oops - typing too fast last night....

I meant that in the past the difference between DST in Egypt and the US was only a couple of weeks!

I guess changing it because of Ramadan makes sense.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

I did hear that Museum Tours also is doing the same thing. I think it is important and will make all of us happier in the end anyway.

CCd

P.S. Yes, DST was stopped specifically before Ramadan would start so it would be easier on those fasting.
