Great Walk of Africa

Has anyone done 'The Great Walk of Africa'? It is a walking/camping safari in Tsavo that covers 120 miles in 12 days. Apparently several travel companies offer it, but Tropical Ice located in Kenya conducts the walk for all of the others.

Thanks Patty...I checked out the thread and from this and everything else I have read, it looks to be a really great safari. Guess I know where I am going in October 2009.

I'd be very interested to read a report if you decide to do this!

Ken,

The above is yet another example of how travel agents manipulate this website ......... This time, it's Africa Drum safaris. Ultimately, all safaris end up in the drum!!!

Dear Hari,

Thank you for your mail. I was just suggesting Nancy looks at them. I was not suggesting she comes through Drum Africa at all. Unless she books through me, I get no commission at all. I just suggested WS because I think they have some stunning packages. I gave the link to their website not mine. If she is interested she is welcome to look. It was just another idea. Sorry if you feel that way. It was not intended that way. I have gotten many great ideas for my clients from reading about everyone elses trips. Hence why I am on this forum. I as a South Africa have learnt much from others experiences on this forum.

I repeat I am not here to manipulate, I am here to participate and get some great ideas myself.

So why do you suggest WS for someone who wants to do a walking trip in Kenya?

They do other areas in Africa, I thought Nancy might be interested in looking at those too. It's just a "for your interest" thing. Everyone else does it so just because I work for a Destination Management company I can't??

Ken I am also just interested in learning more about Africa and destinations. I get a lot of ideas from reading these posts. And if I have some interesting stuff to share I am going to share it. Who knows the next person might want to do it...

It's all about information not so?

Hi Drum Africa

You wrote:

If that is truly your motivation, then may I respectfully suggest

a.) you change your screen name to something other than your company, so we get to know you as a person, not a commercial brand

b.) remove your e-mail from automatically appearing next to your screen name. This can be configured in your profile.

This should help smooth your participation on the forum and keep your postings from becoming natural lightning rods for criticism and suspicion, however well intentioned they may be. I've looked at your other recent posts and you're certainly not flogging your company in them, so I hope others won't pile on and make you feel unwelcome...just people on this forum can be...sensitive, let's say.

Hi Kurt,

Yes, I do feel rather "POUNCED" on. But I have broad shoulders.

Good suggestion - I managed to do the e-mail thing but how do I change my screen name without having to reregister.

You seem like a helpful type so I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hi Drum Africa

Please do not be offended by my comments, I merely thought it strange that somebody should recommend the WS non-walking safaris as an alternative to the proposal from CUBANANCY.

If you simply GOOGLE walking safaris you will find many companies offering this type of experience in many countries but I could find nothing from WS, perhaps I am missing something?

Hi Sniktawk,

Many of these companies like WS will taylor make packages for you. They have the Explorer packages already. If you contact them and ask them about what you want they will be happy to put something together I do it all the time. As they say this is Africa, anything goes and South Africans are super accommodating, we will try anything once (except in my case there is no way I am trying sheeps head :0)

This is not a punt Hari, I promise, but most of the long established companies like WS will put together whatever you want. We want people to love Africa and South Africa as much as we love it...

Now I will get off my soap box - I was just trying to help...

Hi Drum Africa,

You may be trying to be helpful, but I wonder who you are trying to help?
I can only come to one conclusion as to why you recommend WS for a question like this, and that is that your knowledge is adrift or worse.

I think Hari got it entirely correct in the first place
