GoogleMaps and Morocco and Phones

My husband and I will be in Morocco for two weeks this coming month. As our phone service doesn't carry a global data plan for Morocco that is any less than astronomical, we were going to download maps for offline use, but discovered GoogleMaps doesn't have these available for download. Has anyone else run into this problem? Did you come up with a solution? Verizon suggested we rent a phone, though I think we may be too late. Thanks.

That does make sense, and we do have one, well, it is the National Geographic map of Morocco. And we will make do and look up and figure it out.

I've not seen a Nat. Geo. map. It may be good or it may be too simplified. The Michelin one is excellent.

Why don't you try maps.me? They have offline maps for just about every country.

There are several other "offline" map apps for smart phones, as well as GPS apps (that do not use data), but I don't know specifically about Morocco.

The National Geographic Adventure map of Morocco is a version of the Rough Guide/Reise KnowHow map and is the best choice for Morocco, far better than Michelin 742, see http://www.morocco-knowledgebase.net...hread.php?t=66

Free wifi (pronounced wee'fee) is available in most hotels and cafes. You can check out your location and destination area whilst using the free data and save the map locally in your phone (Google for 'save google map offline).

You won't be able to use navigation services when disconnected (i.e. be told when to turn left) but your phone will use its built-in GPS receiver to show your location on the saved maps.

Checking out what I wrote above against the latest offline map instructions it seems you may be able to get navigation directions when offline provided you whole route is covered by offline segments (you can have multiple segments downloaded at once).
