Good Earth Tours?

Has anyone recently used Good Earth Tours? I am considering them for a 5 day safari in June for the Tz. Serengeti Circuit. I was also wondering because they offer "tent and mattress" if it is quite rustic.

Are you considering a camping safari?

I am yes,Patty, but they have not emailed me back yet about what is like eg. are there mattresses? is there showers? They quoted me about$200US per night which seems a bit steep for rustic.

mingxa,
Are you doing TZ northern circuit? $200 per night may seem steep for rustic camping but remember that Serengeti park fees are $50pppd, public campsite fees are $30pppn, private campsite fees are $50pppn, Ngorongoro conservation area fees are, I think, $30pppd plus $100 for each vehicle descent. By the time you add that up plus the cost for the vehicle, guide, cook, fuel, food, etc., you can see that there's not much left over.

How many of you are traveling? If this is a private safari for two, I wouldn't expect too much for $200pppn.

Last year I got quotes for northern circuit semi-lux camping using private campsites and they varied from $280-$320pppn with two people sharing. I would expect costs to be a little higher this year.

Also check with Roy's as they do both budget and semi-lux camping. Their website gives a description of the differences http://www.roysafaris.com/budgetSemi.html

JMT African Heart also has photos and descriptions on their website showing the differences between styles of camping.

I don't think anyone here has used them though. Good luck!

OK, gotcha.

You know, given the short amount of time you have and the fact that you're going to be meeting your daughter in Kigoma, you may want to revisit the idea of Mahale or maybe Gombe. Being so close, I'd be very tempted to visit either one (keep in mind I haven't been though).

You might want to contact Chimpanzee Safaris which owns Nkungwe camp in Mahale, Gombe tented camp and Kigoma Hilltop hotel and see what they have to offer as far as departures from Kigoma. It seems a shame to be so close and not go there but that's just my opinion.

Plus flights from Kigoma to northern Tanzania seem limited, unless you've already booked your international flight to arrive at Kilimanjaro and will be doing your safari first. In that case, just ignore me

Actually Patty, I am thinking the same thing. I have emailed Foxes as well and my daughter is very excited about Gombi Park.
