dubai hotels: can you help me? please!

a family of four are staying in two rooms in dubai this summer for three nights.

we want to be able to rest and relax in a nice hotel. we want to see a bit of beach and the sea. we want to sit by the pool and work out in a gym. we want to do a bit of shopping. we want to see some sights and take some photos. we like a bit of comfort and luxury. we want value for money. we want to eat out at nice restaurants. we don't want to hire a car, but we want to be able to get around easily.

and we don't have a clue about what hotels are like in dubai, where they are in relation to what we want, and what is good value.

can you help us??

where can we stay??

we have the following options:

hilton jumeira $835
hyatt regency $955
le royal meridien $810
royal mirage $1170
jumeira beach $1170
ritz carlton $1290 or club $1985
interconti $835
le meridien dubai $705
sheraton deira $490
sheraton towers $865
sheraton jumeira $955
crowne plaza $690

can you think of any others?

where can we get any better offers?

thanks in advance. xd.

WE stayed at the Royal Mirage for a week over Christmas. I think I paid less than you've been quoted though. We booked through an agent in Dubai. It was a great place for families.

We tried to get into the Ritz-Carlton, but couldn't - but to be honest, it is probably not ideal for families.

Friends stayed at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and loved it - they had 3 children. It was not our cup of tea though (we have no children).

Depending on the age of your children - you might consider Al Maha, in the desert - which was by far the best part of our trip.

Happy planning.

It seems that hotels in Dubai offer good promotion rates in summer. However I am not sure that these special rates are out now. They may appear later in the year (March/April). So I'd suggest you make a tentative booking now (direct with the hotel or a central reservation office) and check back regularly for specials.

You may like the Chicago Beach Hotel. Right on the beach and nice pool. Reasonable. A lot of Europeans(Germans) go there. A bit away from town though. There are a lot of apartments such as the Golden Sands, where you can get 2 room suites. The Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza is also a nice hotel.

Rental cars are very reasonable in Dubai and I have not found driving too difficult. If you do not rent a car then the beach hotels may not be great choices. Taxis are reasonable to get around. Don't miss a trip to Sharjah's old mall with lots of carpets etc.

Also Dubai has a shopping festival usually in March/April time which is a good time. There is a lot to do in Dubai.

Neil
