We're going to be visiting Marrakesh (from NYC) and all flights connect through Casablanca and require at least a 3-hour layover. I'm wondering if it would be feasible to take a taxi from Casablanca to Marrakesh instead. Google Maps says that it's only a 2-hour drive, but I'd love to get confirmation of that from someone who has actually done it. And are there taxis readily available that will make the trip?

We just did a self driving family trip through Morocco last month(December).Its closer to 3+ hours to Marrakesh from Casablanca but maybe it was the way my husband drove.The road is a regular expressway and is very nice. There is a restaurant/way station less than a half hour out of Casablanca which was nice for stretching your legs,getting a cup of tea,bathroom,etc.
Our family's favorite cities during the two weeks were Marrakesh and Essaouira.We really loved Morocco and its people! The scenery,history and food were wonderful.Hope that your trip makes alot of great memories!

Forgot to add-be sure and go to the Djemaa(the big square that is so fabulous at night) in Marrakesh. We ate there every night in one of the many portable restaurants on the square and quite honestly had some of the best meals during our stay in Morocco. Fried Calamari for $3USD,Moroccan soup for 75 cents,fresh squeezed orange juice for 50 cents,unbelievable cooked veggies and meats,etc. Everything is very clean and the hawking by the hosts is not to be missed-part of the experience.We were never sick but always drank bottled water as there is a high proportion of minerals in their water that Westerners have a hard time dealing with?
If you don't have a riad for Marrakesh-I would suggest looking at the Riad Misria.Check out Tripadvisor on its ratings!The riad is walking distance to souks and the square,wonderful prices,great staff,breakfast and the rooms were so uniquely decorated in the Moroccan motif. The best riad we stayed at during our stay!

We were on a cruise and had the entire day to visit Marrakech, so instead of driving ourself, a driver/guide picked us up from the ship and the drive took a a little over 2 hours. We also stopped at that modern rest station along the highway (had some kind of milk/fruit drink similar that was really good).

Next to the square with all the orange juice vendors and food stalls is a restaurant that served up the best Shawarma - so good had to run back for seconds. You will not go hungry in Marrakech. We will definitely be back and spend at least a week next time. One of the most interesting places on Earth to experience. We are posting videos from our trip.
