Dead Sea/Petra
Is it possible to use Marriott Dead Sea Resort as a base in Jordan for visiting Petra? Is it far away? I realize that there are hotels at Petra, but it seems like it can be done in a day's time coming from the Dead Sea.
My idea would be to land in Amman, head right to the resort, do day trip(s) as wanted, and then head over the Israel. Is this possible?

I'd second Host's sentiment. Petra requires minimum two days, the candle light introduction should be a requirement. Check out http://www.luxepacker.com/files/move...ra_jordan.html for a hotel review re Movenpick.

Petra is only about 2-3 hours drive from Amman. I rented a car when I visited; there are lots of car rental companies at the airport, and the roads in Jordan are easy to navigate.
I also stayed at the Movenpick, the one closest to Petra. It was a gorgeous hotel and I'd highly recommend it.
