Hi there. I'm 22 and am travelling to Jordan from Ireland with 2 other girls for a week in June. I'm aware that we will need to dress modestly for our stay, but I was wondering if someone could help me out in relation to clothing at the beach in Aqaba. Is it ok to wear bikini's and swimsuits or should we stick to the long skirts!? Also around the resort are shorts ok? I was in Mexico on holidays last year and it was very hot but it had a very different dress code! Also any advice/information anyone could provide (like websites etc...)in relation to my trip would be great. Thanks.

Jordan is one of the nicest places to visit you can find. They are very hospitable and embrace all cultures and all modes of dress, you don't have to dress modestly, unless you are into walking around with your belly button exposed with a tattoo and earing in it. Most women, with the exception of the Bedouin, dress in modern clothing and if you are a tad on the chubby side you will be treated like a queen.<BR>I would just wear whatever swim suit you have, 'tho I have not been to Aqaba - only the dead sea, don't do what I did there tho and open your eyes under the water. Its a great experience swimming in the Dead Sea. Make sure that whatever you do you don't miss Petra and try and stay overnight if possible there, get yourself an archeologist to show you around. It's the World's most fantastic place and makes most other ruins in the world look like yesterdays cheap antiques.

hi there,<BR>support Liz, on the beach You can wear bikini or swimsuits, no problem. In the town dont wear shorts, sleevless shirts or mini. It will make You feel much more comfortable. Petra shure is great (not so shure if it is the worlds most fantastic place, but it is the worlds most expensive archeological suite). Aquaba is not that good, the town is noisy and the beaches are solala. Dont forget to take a look at the Wadi Rum, Madaba, Amman, the dessert castles, Jerash ... There is so much to explore in Jordania. And take care, the political situation is not so good at the moment ...<BR>have fun<BR>Gar

Thanx 4 ur replys. It's very helpful. Don't worry, I'm not wasting a visit to Jordan by just going to Aqaba! We're starting off in Amman and doing Jerash and the northern sights, then on to the dead sea and then to Petra for a couple of days. We're staying overnight in the desert and then on to Aqaba. Can't wait. Someone suggested to me that we wear sarongs instead of skirts cause they're cooler. Thanx again 4 ur help.
