Car hire in South Africa
We (3 adults) are spending 8 days in Durban South Africa and will need to hire a car for 8 days. I have done some research and narrowed it down to Dollar Rental. The total cost for a Nissan Tiida Sedan is R3598 ($446). Is this OK? I have read reviews about people having problems with car trawling companies and thus went for a car hire company. The cost includes full insurance (CDW and theft) with a $1000 excess.

About $60 per day sounds in the ball park to me. There may be cheaper, than Dollar or Avis but we always use Avis (out of JNB). They have HUGE selection but importamtly to us is they are USA company so if any problems (never had any) we are working "local" even when back home (California).
BTW, what is a "trawling" company? (Here is USA we call Dollar, Avis, Budget, etc. "rental", as you likely know).

By car trawling I refer to companies that are not dedicated car rental agencies like Avis but act as "middlemen" who source the car from car rental agencies. They are cheaper but are usually not based in the country you rent the car in.

Did you check Aroundabout cars & Thrifty or Tempest reliable South African companies, I did a comparison & it came to R2176.
