Camera in a hard-top suitcase???
Hi!!! The rules for packing seem to change every hour.....how does this sound.
My camera case seems pretty secure. What if i bubble wrap it, and pack it between my clothes in a hard top suitcase?
Even if the camera is allowed on board from India, the Bombay airport looks like a zoo (tv news), and probably just less hassle to check it in.
What does everyone think? I can always repack when i get to JNB. Leave the suitcase with Fed Air or CCAfrica rep...i can organize either option, i guess. Pick it up on return from the safari?
Very very stressful!!! Just finished up all work at the office and now i hv to focus on the packing.....Those cats and definitely Wild dogs at Kwando, better show up!!!!!!

Hari,
Sorry not much of an expert but your plan sounds good. I am wondering however, if your hard suitcase has any give or will it remain totally stiff if under the weight of many heavy bags. Could you perhaps put your camera in a smaller hard shelled container in your suitcase for extra protection?
With all the recent events uncovered in India it sounds best to take the most conservative measures packing. Does your insurance cover your camera equip?
Wishing you the best and a wonderful safari. Hope you see cats!

Hi Sherry,
Many thks for your response....at this time, i'm just hoping that the hard top, holds up. My guess is, it should. Good question about the insurance for the camera, i will chk first thing in the morning. Thanks....
At this point, there's very few options....
I did call the SAA India office, they said to watch the news for updates as and when they are made available.
I'm watching an old re-run of Seinfeld....i can't watch the news anymore!!! Very stressful....dont want to watch animal planet, as is going to add to the stress....

Hari,
Keep thinking of all those beautiful CATS awaiting your arrival.
As with all this kind of rubbish, it soon shall pass and blow over. It sounds like you've got it under control. Go and enjoy!
FYI, my home owners policy covers for my camera equipment - don't know if that's standard.
Happy cheetah and leopard sightings!

Hari,
That sounds like a good plan. Use a lot of bubble wrap and make sure you fill up the suitcase with clothes or bubble wrap so items won't be able to shift around when the bag is handled.
Don't stress too much. It will all work out. Allow yourself extra time if possible at the airport.
Have a safe trip.
