Michel -- thank you for starting this post! I was just starting to sift the info about Ghana on this site and this popped up.

We're looking for some place exciting and warm to visit at the end of October. We have a 4 year old son who travels extremely well, for a 4 year old! We think he's a bit young for an actual African safari full of animals and game drives. We were hoping that Ghana would be a good choice. More exciting than a regular resort vacation but still relaxed and safe enough for a family holiday.

Honestly, we're at the very beginning stages of planning this vacation and have just started looking into Ghana. Other options are Zanzibar and Oman. Any thoughts?

I'm here!

I was there fro 2 weeks, XMAS2005/NY 2006. I was visiting my nephew who was doing a university year at the UNiversity in Accra. We travelled as non-tourists, taking tro-tros everywhere, eating local food, shopping local, staying at small hotels. We did go to a resort for a couple of days at XMAS, went to National Park and did canopy walk, Cape Coast castle,etc..

What are you thinking of doing?

I'll get my trip notes out. I'm also currently uploading my trip pics to Facebook

Ghana is a great place to travel to. I've been twice. I'm female and went, solo in 2003/2004 and liked it so much that I turned around and went back in 2004/2005. I've written on this forum about it. It was not my first trip to Africa as I had gone, solo, twice in the early 80s to Tunisia, one summer, and Morocco, another summer. But, I had always wanted to go to West Africa as I had had friends my age, going there since the mid 70s during our university years. They had lived there.

A poster named, Sandye, from Canada, took her whole family to Ghana. It was her and her husband and 3 kids. You can look up her info on this forum. She even wrote a long story, with photos, on her trip on a website that, off the top of my head, I can't remember at the present. But, it was under hooktravellers. Maybe you can find it in this forum. Happy Travels!

I looked it up here on fodors and Sandye's story is on www.travelpod.com and then under hooktravellers. She and I were on personal e-mail for months as I helped her with her Ghana plans. Happy Travels!

I'd like to go back to Ghana. Even though I spent 2 weeks there, we did not make it to all the places we should have gone too. It was so culturally different than anywhere else I had been to, my brain felt over-stimulated by everything we experienced. A similar feeling when visited Turkey.

I'll post our itinerary out of my notes.
