Dear all

I am new here, but wonder if I can ask some advice. We were booked in to stay at Beyt Al Chai in September, but have just now found out (on sending an email to check on our confirmed booking) that they are now in fact closed and not taking any more bookings (due to new owners).

I hope we can find something else now, at this rather short notice - I know September can be busy. We have heard about Kholle House and Jafferji House, does anyone have experience staying there or could recommend something small in Stone Town?

With new owners at Beyt Al Chai, they're likely refurbishing the entire small hotel (6/rooms).

There are so many new small hotels now in Stone Town, difficult to keep up, thus have no comments on the two mentioned.

One new property to consider is Emerson Spice which is about 1.5/yrs old and gets excellent reviews. The owner had been partnered with another owning Emerson & Green, but when sold and now the former E&G being called 236 Hurumzi, Emerson opened Spice. Check it out.

Thanks Sandi, I knew of Emerson & Spice becoming the Hurumzi place, but not that the original owners had reopened something. I will check it out now, thanks a lot!!

I'm partial to Tembo House due to its location in Stone Town and also because it's right on the water. It's reasonably priced, as well. In Stone Town, I'd recommend Monsoon Restaurant, especially for dinner. It's on the outside of the tunnel near Forodhani Gardens. Reservations are recommended.

Thank you ShayTay, we have ended up booking Emerson Spice and have organised one dinner in their rooftop restaurant - will look at the Monsoon Restaurant for dinner on our other night, thank you!
