Has anyone used this company for Tanzania? Wanting to to to Tanzania next October or November 2007. Any great ideas for tour groups. Would prefer private tour. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you Mutt

suggest you consider Roy's, Eastern and Southern, or Southern Cross. Others will have some additional suggestions

Africa Dream Safaris is US based. Don't believe they do "group" tours, but then you asked for a "private tour" which they can assist with. Recent comments, though have indicated their prices tend to be on the high-side.

This is probably a moot point now, but I have several itineraries from ADS. They have been wonderful so far and I am trying to make a decision whether to go with them or Roy's!
Has anyone here who has recently used Roy's Safari's and more specifically their agent Susan Attwood? I have heard or read somewhere someone had problems with a Susan Wood, but I don't know if that was a typo and it's the same person, or they are 2 different agents?
I like Roy's itinerary, see below, and they are less expensive than ADS.
Any opinions on the itinerary?
I would love some input. Thanks.

As for Tanzania ... if you travel late October/November I would suggest the
following:

10-day

Day 1) Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet upon arrival and transfer
to Kigongoni, overnight (B&B basis)
Day 2) Depart Arusha for Ngorongoro Crater, afternoon game drive on Crater
floor, overnight Serena Lodge (B/L/D)
Day 3) Morning game drive on Crater floor, afternoon depart for Serengeti, game
drive, overnight Serena Lodge (B/L/D)
Day 4) Full day Serengeti, morning and afternoon game drives, overnight
Migration Camp (B/L/D)
Day 5) Full day Serengeti, morning and afternoon game drives, overnight
Migration Camp (B/L/D)
Day 6) Full day Serengeti, morning and afternoon game drives, overnight Serena
Lodge (B/L/D)
Day 7) Depart Serengeti for Lake Manyara National Park, overnight E-Unoto
Retreat (B/L/D)
Day 8) Brief game drive in Manyara before proceeding to Tarangire National Park,
game drive, overnight Kikoti Camp (B/L/D)
Day 9) Full day Tarangire, morning and afternoon game drives, overnight Kikoti
Camp with night game drive (B/L/D)
Day 10) Morning game drive in Tarangire (with picnic lunch), late afternoon
return to Arusha and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for outbound
international flight. End of services.

Price per person: US$3,875.00

Price includes: airport transfers as stated, meals as stated, accommodations as
stated, all park entrance fees, exclusive use of 4WD vehicle with English
speaking guide, and night game drive at Kikoti Camp (this is done in a camp
vehicle, not a Roy Safaris vehicle.)

Price does not include: beverages (soft drinks or alcohol), gratuities for guide
and lodge/camp personnel, costs associated with visa and passport fees, laundry,
personal toiletry items and other items of a personal nature (ie clothing,
luggage, etc.)

Thanks to anyone who replies to this with help/advice, comments.

Hi Robar,

In mid-September I would opt for more time in Southern Mara and Samburu rather than Serengeti. The wildebeest will be gathering in the Southern Mara and to be amongst the migration is a great experience.

If you are looking for a US based agent you might like to try Good Earth http://www.goodearthtours.com/ or Africa Serendipity, http://www.africaserendipity.com/

Cheers,

Pol

Sue, we have used Roy Safaris for three trips the past 18 months and would recommend them highly. We booked the last two trips directly with their Arusha office instead of using an agent in the US (the first trip was a group trip set up by a pro photographer so we knew what to ask for on the 2nd and 3rd trips).

If you would feel more comfortable using an agent I think one of the US agents who uses Roy Safaris is named Susan Wood (the complaining post you mention was about a different Susan, IIRC). Also, Sandi, who has posted on this thread, is a US agent who can book your trip with Roy and she has an excellent reputation as well.
