Hello. We thought the Victoria Falls Hotel was definitely worth the money--fantastic and unbelievably good service. If you don't end up staying there, at least go there for dinner one night at the dressy restaurant. Even though the hotel stay is pricey, the dinner prices are unbelievably reasonable. My husband got the 5-course meal for under $20 I think. And there was a great live band and dancing. The hotel will provide a coat and tie if the men in your party don't have one. They also have a great afternoon tea. Enjoy your time there! We loved it!

There is another thread here about accommodation in Johannesburg/Cape Town and Victoria Falls - have a look at that. <BR> <BR>Just three more things: <BR>1) Vic Falls is a malaria area with January part of high risk season. <BR>2) It is going to be scorching hot in Vic Falls - bring lots of sun screen. <BR>3) I hate to be an alarmist but the political situation in Zimbabwe appears to be going down the tubes rapidly - see www.news24.co.za and type Victoria Falls in search (link is http://www.news24.co.za/contentDispl...069451,00.html). Some "war veterans" invaded the town of Victoria Falls on the 22nd August and the I have read that Victoria Falls hotel that was mentioned in the previous response was on the receiving end.

I/we have stayed at Vic Falls Hotel several times, over course of thirty years, but each time we see that meglamania is intensifying (always expanding), along with the price. Some rooms are undesirable and others are desirable, but tiny. If you go, view the room offered before you commit yourself. The last time we were in Vic Falls (October, 2000), we stayed at the Sprayview and took a taxi back and forth, although, if your feet are in good condition, the distance is easily walkable (don't do it at night, however). The Sprayview is perfectly satisfactory. You can still enjoy tea on the verandah of the Vic Falls Hotel or eat in the dining room. The town of Vic Falls, to my great chagrin, has become almost disgusting. Why the Zimbabwe tourist authority doesn't clean it up, I don't understand. The arrival of taxis to assist guests staying at outlying hotels means that visitors are followed and fought over for fares. There are touts of every imaginable sort loitering on the sidewalks, hassling tourists, too. Vic Falls would make even Walt Disney frown, but the falls, themselves, still merit a trip. Of course, if you stay at the Vic Falls Hotel and don't leave the grounds, you can escape the tawdriness outside the gate. P

Hi, <BR> <BR>We stayed at the Sprayview Hotel, and we thought it was a great value. <BR> <BR>All the other hotels seemed incredibly over priced. <BR> <BR>When we were there, we paid less than 40 USD per night, and the Hotel has a pool, restaurant, travel agency, and it is located about 5 - 10 minute walk to downtown and 30 minute walk to the falls. It is a "middle of the road" - moderate hotel, and our room also had air conditioning. <BR> <BR>We also went for drinks in the afternoon to the Victoria Falls hotel which is awesome! I really liked it, but I didn't want to spend those outrageous amounts for staying there. <BR> <BR>The staff at the Sprayview Hotel were very nice and friendly too. <BR> <BR>Alexandra

We stayed at the Vic Falls Hotel during the time of the so called invasion of the town. WELL, you wouldn't know this was going on walking around the town. You just have a lot of people trying to part you with your American dollars for Zim dollars. I did see one person arrested at the hotel and if they just so happened to walk by our room you would never have known. But life at the hotel was wonderful. You need a jacket for one of the dinning rooms but don't worry they have a bunch to lend you. Enjoy and make sure you walk over to Zambia to see the falls from that side and for a real treat walk to the Royal Livingston for a drink.

We stayed at the Victoria Fall Safari Lodge and loved every minute of it !! Looking out over the grounds was like being in another world. Sampling the food at the Boma Restaurant was an experience as well.<BR>We took a look at the The Vic Falls Hotel while we were there. Absolutely beautiful, but a little more formal... not the relaxed atmosphere of the Safari Lodge. Have a super time. We're planning a return trip sometime during the summer months.

Re Cape Town, we stayed at a great guesthouse called Villa Surprise (about £80-100 a night) in Camps Bay - one of Cape Towns's best areas - with good beach and restaurants. The guesthouse is fun, stylish and very welcoming. For a full review and photos see www.i-escape.com<BR>
