15 Days in Tanzania - Pictures and trip report
Hi all...
We returned last month from safari in Tanzania.
It was a wonderful trip!! Spent the last month processing and uploading the trip pictures on our website. Also, added a daily journal of what we saw and did.
You can find it here

Thanks for all the comments. It was a lot of hard work putting it together ..almost the same amount of effort as organizing the trip!
Leely - yep first time ever camping! Such a different experience ..loved every bit of it!
G_Stobbe - 3 nights at Pongwe Beach Hotel cost $240 (Half board) and 2 nights at Emerson and Greene was $160 (Half board). But the costs were part of the package put together by EASTCO for us. ..so they may or not be the same as what is being quoted to you. Definitely recommend Pongwe as the place to go to relax and do nothing. But in stone town, the Serena Inn looked good ..wasn't all that impressed by Emerson and Greene.

I really enjoyed reading your journal and looking through all your pictures -- what a great trip! Thanks for sharing this. Very inspiring!
My husband and I are planning a trip for October 2007 and are thinking of adding on a day for hiking -- do you think the Empakaai Crater would be worthwhile as a daytrip from Karatu? (Or do you really need to stay overnight?) Our Tanzanian operator suggested it, but I have not read very many trip reports that included it. (I wish we had time for several days' worth of trekking like you did!)

I think Empakai Crater is a pretty long drive from Karatu .. and the trek itself should not take more than 3 1/2 to 4 hours. The crater looked really beautiful in the morning with the mist hanging over it and camping near Empakai is different from any of the park campsites. I believe it is a special campsite ..no facilities but more than compensated by the amazing views. So it's basically upto u. Hope this helps.
