Zanzibar TOP 5

Hi,

Can someone give me a list of Zanzibar TOP 5 hotels/lodges for a romantic couple (small lodges are preferred)?

Thanks,

My top 5 would be:

Breezes Beach Club,

Chapwani Private Island,

Emerson & Green Hotel,
http://www.emerson-green.com/

Mnemba Island Lodge,

The Palms,

I would consider also Chumbe Island (www.chumbeisland.com) and Matemwe Bungalows (www.matemwe.com).

The Palms and Mnemba Island are extraordinary--and extraordinarily expensive.

For less money than any of the others mentioned you might consider Mateme Beach Lodge/Guesthouse (matemwebeach.com).

Also, you could combine a stay at Emerson and Green in Stonetown with a longer stay at the beach at one of the other places.

Bwanamitch,

Why do you put Breezes Beach Club on 1?
I do believe it to be quite romantic, but it can't beat mnemba , or does it?
It also isn't very small, it is quite a big hotel.
Allthough my kids (teenagers) loved it, because of all the romantic little spots and corners the hotel offers, it wasn't really my style, could use some refurbishing.
Do you agree with that or not?

africa_lover,

I sorted my list alphabetically.

Breezes was my last pick, mainly because I remembered some photos in the Zanzibar Style book - I havn't been there. So your information is quite useful.

Pongwe Beach Resort on the east side of the island is a quiet, cozy little property with a fairly private beach and hammocks under coconut palms. The food is superb! You can read about it and other Zanzibar resorts at www.africatravelresource.com

Another good resource for accommodations on Zanzibar Island (also Pemba, Mafia, etc.) is:

http://www.encounterzanzibar.com/index.htm

Their prices might not be current, but the descriptions are good.
