Zanzibar Safe?

Is it safe to travel to travel to Zanzibar at this time? Has anyone been there recently? Do you recommend Zanzibar or any other island stay after an East Africa Safari? I will be going in September.

Thanks

I can't comment on current conditions in Zanzibar since I haven't been there in a long time, but I did love it there (in September also) and think that going to an island or a beach is a wonderful way to top off a safari. I probably think more about Zanzibar now than I do about the safari.

There are numerous islands off the coasts of Kenya or Tanzania to choose from: Mafia, Pemba, Mnemba and Zanzibar, all off the coast of Tanzania and Lamu, off the coast of Kenya. Of course there are the Seychelles as well.

I was in Zanzibar, both Stone Town and the East coast, 2 months ago. I experienced no problems and felt quite safe.

I also visited Zanzibar in Nov. 2002 and felt the same way. Very welcoming.
