mv,

I would say that I was giving good advice. I advised her to go with a preferred tour operator...I am sure there are a few that fit that category.

Rocco, come off it. You are taking advantage of the fact that Fodors have let you know they appreciate your previous efforts on the forum...
Other operators/ agents have been kicked off for less, and even if that's less likely for you, it would be appreciated by many of us if you didn't take the ****!

Rocco, I'm curious how things work in the US with regard to becoming a tour operation. Do you not have to take some kind of course first and get a licence, or can anyone call themselves a tour operation? You are constantly pushing some properties such as the Luangwa River Lodge and I was wondering if you are getting a kickback from these properties. I know as you tried to convince me not to go with Robin Pope properties, but rather Luangwa River Lodge. I agree with Kavey and MV that information on this forum is great, but this forum is no place for promoting one's business.

Raelond,

Most operators have their preferred lodges, just as most business have their preferred suppliers. It does not mean that I am necessarily getting a better deal from the companies I endorse, but rather that I have visited these properties and throw my full endorsement behind them.

While I am sure that RPS is an excellent company, I have yet to visit their camps, but have visited many others in South Luangwa that I have really liked.

For everytime that I may have made a post that borders on self-promotion, I have made 50 other posts that have not. I have posted not only on the countries that I have commercials interests in, but also I have posted plenty about Tanzania and elsewhere, where I am, like most people on this forum, just a regular tourist.

For my upcoming trip to Tanzania, I received no discount from Africa Travel Resource or Africa Serendipity, just as for my last safari I received no preferential treatment from Taga Safaris and paid full price for my Zambian safari to Luangwa River Lodge, Puku Ridge, Chongwe River Camp and Kasaka River Lodge.

Even with the occasional slip here and there, and even in my new role, I remain one of the biggest consumer advocates on this board. I am not one of these tour operators that comes on here and plugs myself without ever offering any helpful advice to others. Not to pat myself on the back, but I cannot think of too many others, when it comes to Southern African safaris, who have spent so much time on this forum helping other travelers. For this reason, I do find it odd that I would be criticized by some who rarely even post on the forum.

In retrospect, I should have just waited and allowed the OP of this thread to say what I stated, but in trying to be helpful to the enquiring person, and thinking that the OP would be offline working on his photo gallery for a couple weeks, I took the opportunity to respond.

Rocco

please get out of your paranoia and stop whining. No one is criticizing you. We are simply telling you to stop your "occasional slips".
You dont see the other tour operators posting on this board making the same "slips".
As I have mentioned before I appreciate most of the advise that you offer to this board and I dont have a problem with you as long as you dont advertise

mv,

If you wish to personally attack so, please start a new thread or feel free to e-mail me. I think we have already diverted far enough from the topic at hand.
