Zambia in October

Just returned from Zambia. The weather was predictably HOT, the tsetse flies were hungry, but we had a terrific time. I highly recommend Puku Ridge tented camp in South Luangwa and Bushcamp Company camps for those who like walking safaris.

In South Luangwa, we stayed at Kuyenda. Phil Berry, the host, has worked in the park for 40 years. He has done research on the giraffes and knows every tree, bird and crawling beast. It was fascinating to listen as he described not only what we were seeing, but how it had changed over the years. We saw a pride of lions with cubs, elephants every day, giraffes. We teased Phil about the giraffes -- asked if he emailed them each evening and told them where to stand the following day as he always "found" them. Saw leopards, civits, mongoose on night safaris.
Dues to the heat, we chose not to walk to the other Bushcamp camps, but other travelers were very complimentary about all four facilities.
Ended the trip in Livingston at Sussi Lodge. Nice accommodations but the service was not quite as excellent as we had experienced at Puku Ridge. Dinners were good, but there were no choices. Mealtimes were "flexible" -- as in lunch won't be ready at 1:00, maybe we'll have it ready by 2:00. The manager tried very hard to make sure clients were all satisfied. I would definitely go back.
