your favorite dubai eateries?

We will be going to dubai in december. If any of you have some favorite restaurants/cafés, please send them on.

All the recs i have always received from fodorites have been very helpful.

we will be there for 6 days, so we will have plenty of time to try several.

I have noted recommendations for a drink atop some of the hotels for the view.

(what i am not interested in is a $150 /person meal, no matter how good.)

Thanks!

wish I could offer some assistance. I was there for a school rugby tournament and only ate at Planet Hollywood and TGIFridays in the Mall of the Emirates.

I was in Dubai last November, and I tried to eat several meals outside the large hotels, and try to experience a bit of Dubai that felt like the Arabian peninsula instead of Las Vegas.

There's a good seafood restaurant along the creek that's accessed through the Bur Dubai souk -- the tables are right along the creek. Some of my favorite meals were at the schwarma stands in Deira Dubai.

That being said, I also ate at Al Mahara, the seafood restaurant in the Burj al Arab, and it was excellent (food was pretty good, but a beautiful room around a large aquarium). But, its expensive, maybe $200 per person (it may have been a bit more) -- before wine. But, if you have a few schwarma meals you can average down the price.

We didn't actually get to eat here, but we'd heard really good things about Sammach, located in the beach centre mall. (it was closed for ramadan when we finally discovered it.. they decided to take the time to renovate). We wanted to go because all the reviews were really good, it's very reasonably priced, and it's local seafood.

We ended up eating at Maya at the Royal Meridien (probably because it's a sister restaurant to one we have in SF) and at the chinese restaurant in the Mina salaam hotel. The chinese place was quite good.

err um, it started with a recommendation from a friend of a friend. but when i googled sammach dubai i found a few reviews (mostly blogs, I think).
We were very bummed when we found it and it was closed. It was exactly the kind of place we'd hoped to try.

Dubai is your ultimate Gastronomic Paradise destination. Just had a recent 2 week stay, I fell in love with the local cuisine, kebabs and street food. We also tried Wagamama which is an affordable restaurant at Palm and loved their fusion Japanese and a wide range of fresh drinks, tried something called positive.

Anyway, plenty of options.
