Tuesday to Egypt!!!
It hardly seems possible after so much planning, but we leave for Cairo next Tuesday! I hope I have remembered everything everyone has recommended - I am very grateful for all your advice. We still need to fill in a few ideas for our "leisure" days in Cairo and Alexandria, but I am sure it will fall into place once we are there.
Has anyone dined on one of the Cairo cruise boats? Which did you like, or not?
I will post a full report when I return. Again, thanks for all the posts which helped so much in planning this trip.

Book for the Revolving Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency, and have a super view of the Nile and City.

Dear Conlet,
I have actively been reading the posts and and depart tomorrow for 3 weeks. I return on the 18th. I will post info from our trip, we are travelling independently. I will say I have found some comments interesting, if you are pressed for time you may need a tour guide or if you are not adventourous but we have had no trouble booking hotels at excellent rates and have found travelling around in theory to be possible and easy within the context of the trip. I was able to book Egypt Air flights here and have tickets in hand and booked a Nile cruise at a great rate. That is the one thing I was hoping to try and book there.
Based on other people's excellent info we are venturing around on our own, we have 3 weeks and will visit Petra as well.
I wish you happy trails and may see you in Cairo oir Alex or Sharm or Petra etc.
