women's clothing

I am an American traveling to Egypt in April. I understand the values of the Egyptians and will follow them as closely as possible. I will be staying in an American hotel...can I wear a swimsuit there? Also, I have read that Luxor is not as strict with the clothing. Since it will be warmer there, can I get away with long shorts to the knee area or should I stick with pants?

What you do in the hotel is up to you, outside I'd be more respectful & wear a long skirt

Yes, you may wear a bathing suite (one or two piece) at your hotel. Egypt is actually pretty relaxed on how tourists dress compared to other Middle East Countries. However, to avoid any unwanted advances outside of your hotel, I would stick to loose fitting clothes (long skirts, and pants). I would also try to blend in with the crowds by wearing neutral colors; Nothing too bright.
