Will we see migration with this itinerary?

Since I booked this trip before I found this site, which, by the way, is my favorite site that I check out EVERY DAY, I didn't know anything about the migration. I assumed since it was named Migration Safari by Good Earth, that was the focus. I think I assumed wrong. We leave Oct. 9,(you all can imagine how anxious I am, having trouble sleeping, boring everyone with my constant chatter about my excitment etc.) Anyway, what are chances we may see the migration with this itinerary, knowing now how dependent on the weather it is:

Oct.9 leave Newark,NJ 4:25pm for Amsterdam
Oct.10 arrive JRO 7:45pm
Oct.11 Tarangire Treetops
Oct.12 "
Oct.13 lake Manyara Serena
Oct.14 Serengeti Serena
Oct.15 "
Oct.16 Migration Camp
Oct.17 "
Oct.18 Ngorongoro Serena
Oct.19 back to Arusha( then on to Rwanda for gorilla treks, staying at Gorillas Nest, booked thru Rwanda Eco Tours, then 1 day in Nairobi before going home, day stay and tour with Wildebeest travel)

As I mentioned on previos posts, I retired a little over a year ago and am starting to fulfill my dream to travel. I really don't care if we see migration or not, seeing any of the animals will be wonderful, but my husband asked about it and I told him I can easily find out by asking the knowledgeable folks on Fodors! I appreciate all the info received from this site: I know what to pack, what shots are good to get, what med for malaria, what camera and binoculars to have, what to tip, what books to read, what guide to request, etc. Thank you one and all. I splurged since its my first trip of retirement, staying at expensive places but when I just looked at Good Earth's site (starting to get info on Botswana!!) I saw my trip for $1000 more from when I booked, woo hoo!!! Thanks again for all the informaton on this site and for the wonderful people willing to share their knowledge and experiences.

Hi KRNS,

as you booked Migration camp, which is up norht in Lobo area of Serengeti, you will hav good chances to see the Migration. They currently inform people on their webpage:

"The sights and sounds around camp are magnificent at the moment. After about four days of rain showers the whole world around us has turned green and the bush is blooming. To the north the wildebeest have started to move and we expect the herds to be coming through camp over the next few weeks."

you most likely see the migration!
you being in the right part of the serengeti doesn't mean it's preditcable where wildebeest and zebras are grasing at the time you are there. nothing is predictable.
but i could bet your chance is pretty high - let's say 95% ;-)

i really long for east africa but cannot make it this year :-( therefore i am a bit "jealous" ..;-)
i had a look at airfares for 2009. gosh!!! KLM and emirates are going to charge almost 1500€/2400us$ !
i was pretty positive that we go next august/sep. but i guess i go on strike despite loving the destination so much!
good that you have chosen to travel in 08!

i am just dreaming about it!

I assume the drivers usually know where the migration herds are, correct?

Is there a web site anyone knows about where they post migration updates?

Alejandra, I'll actually be in the Serengeti Sept. 15 - 19. It will be interesting to see if some of the herds are still south of the border, perhaps in the Lemai Triangle.
