White rhinos at Vumburu Plains

Wilderness Safaris reports the sighting of two white rhinos to the north of Vumburu Plains in late June.

They were identified as not being from the group relocated to Chiefs Island, and are thought to be the first naturally occurring white rhinos sighted in Botswana for some twenty years

It is just unbelievable, what will they say next, "we speculate that these animals may have come from Zimbabwe", I have to say that is a bloody long way to walk, even with the spectre of 5 more years of Mugabe.

It is also amazing that this enormously important sighting does not appear to be known by the relevant authorities as of 28th June 2008.

sniktawk, unless any of has recently visited Vumbura and seen the rhinos (or not seen them, as the case may be), what would we have to contribute to this thread?

I would have thought that the miraculous appearance of White Rhino might be of interest.

I hope there are white rhinos in Vumbura for the rhinos' sake. But will 2 isolated animals help the species or will they have to swim to Chief's Island for that?
