where to start my safari

Hello all,

I've been putting together an itinerary for a tanz safari. It looks like most people start from Arusha. It seems to me that its easier with airfare and organization to start in Niarobi rather than connect to JRO. Am I wrong about this? Can some experienced safari goers provide some insight here? Thanks!

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. If you are planning a Tanzanian safari and not a Kenya/Tanzania combo, why would you start in Nairobi?

That said, when I went on safari we flew in and out of NBO because we were able to get good airfare to NBO via LHR. We had enough time to take in some of the sights in Nairobi, take a shuttle bus to Arusha and then begin our safari from there. We flew from Zanzibar to NBO to catch our flight home from there.

Hello,

What is your itinerary in Tanzania? Your starting and ending points may make a difference in which airport is most convenient and/or cost effective.

Cheers,
Julian

If you're doing a northern Tanzania itinerary, JRO would definitely be the most convenient airport.

However, airfare into NBO can often be cheaper due to more airlines competition. That's why some people chose to fly into NBO if even they're only doing a Tanzania safari. If you do fly into NBO though, I'd encourage you to consider adding a few days in Kenya as well.

If you're ending in Zanzibar or doing a southern Tanzania itinerary, then DAR is the most convenient airport.
