where to start!
We are planning a trip to Africa in September. I've been reading several posts, but feel everyone is way ahead of me. We are considering a walking safari, and would like something remote.
Any suggestions. Thanks, Mary Jane |

Sorry, I just saw that it’s fully booked in September, but if you are 5 or more people they can customise a departure.

try http://www.robinpopesafaris.net/safariinfo/walking.php
still available space/dates in sep. robin is one of the leading guides in africa especially for walking safaris! |
If you are going mid to late September, be prepared for it to be 100F. As much as I enjoy hiking, it is not fun for me when it is so hot!

Another option is Remote Wildlife's 5 or 11 day walking safari- the 5 day doesn't include all the nights in the bush camps and Delia Lodge. This is not just bush walks. This is in a very remote park, starting in Nkalamo Camp and bush camps along the way to Delia Camp.

Mary Jane,
There are so many options that it can seem overwhelming and that everybody knows everything that you don't know. When you stated walking and remote, I thought of North Luangwa in Zambia. I'm returning in August for 5 nights at Kutandala Camp. http://www.kutandala.com/ September can be really, really, hot as mentioned. But you walk early in the morning. Still, really hot. Luangwa Blondes suggestion also appears to be in N. Luangwa. A little less remote, but still without many other people are the Lower Zambezi in Zambia or Mana Pools in Zimbabwe. I saw more animals in both of these places than N. Luangwa. You can also canoe there. In LZ I stayed at Sausage Tree and canoed on the Chifungulu Channel (a highlight) to Old Mondoro. In Mana Pools it was a walking mobile safari with Natureways. A combo of Mana Pools walk & canoe, then LZ walk & canoe, & drives day and night, then Kutandala walking would be fantastic! But that's a chunk of time and I don't know if I'd do that much on foot in Sept--so hot. |
