Where is the migration

Any idea where(which area) the main migration(wildebeest) is in the serengeti

Hi,

I am working for an agent in Arusha (Green Footprint Adventures) and I saw your question about the migration.

At the moment the migration is still in the northeren part of the serengeti crossing the the Grumeti river as I speak, so
the people who want to see this famous crossing this is the time!!!

In average the migrations is as follows:

Nov – mid dec
At this time of year the migration is slowly moving from the north-eastern to the southern part of the Serengeti.

Mid dec- March
At this time of year the migration is in the Ndutu area in the southern part of the Serengeti – the wildebeest move south to give birth.

April- May
During the months of April and May, the migration is quite spread out, but you have the chance to catch a glimpse of the wildebeest in the southern and central areas of the Serengeti. Beginning of April it i best to concentrate on the south, later in May the central areas are better.

Jun – Nov
At this time of year the migration is in the northern part of the Serengeti. The wildebeest accumulate in the Mara River area. This means you need to travel further, all the way to the northern Serengeti – sometimes it is even best to fly there.

traveller, your best option might be Sayari Camp in the Northern Serengeti. I'm very excited about staying there next year as I've heard great things about the camp and the region. There are also some mobile tented camps you might want to investigate. They're listed on Eben's site:

If you want to split your time between the permanent camps, the others that might make sense for that time of year are Kleins and Migration, although I think I'd be inclined to stay put at Sayari. You can always drive down toward the Seronera (Central Serengeti) if you want to. Lobo Lodge is another option, but not in the same class as the other camps!

Heads up....4-5 nights at the end of this month might be tricky to book.

Are these places easy to book last minute?

Well to answer al the questions; because it is already almost the end of November, you need to act quickly. The suggestions Carlo gave are the once I would suggest to. Suyan camp close to klein’s gate is maybe also an opportunity. Suyan Camp offers fantastic service on a very intimate scale. There are hardly any other camps or cars in the area - this is safari the way it was many years ago. The camp is located outside the park boundary, which means you can go walking with a Masaai guide. The tents are spacious and elegantly furnished - all in all a very special experience, one that truly brings you to the bush.

I you want to experience the real bush feeling, Suyan and Sayari Camp, are to me very good choices.
