Where can we find mind-blowing wildlife?

My husband and I are planning to visit Africa during end of November. He's been to Mala Mala camp in South Africa but wasn't impressed, as he found the population of animals to be quite less. We're looking for big and awesome herds of animals. We're considering between Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, etc. We would appreciate any inputs, including accomodation recommendations. Thanks! - Aarti

We have only been to Kenya and South Africa and both were fantatic, diverse trips. If you are looking for tons of animals, then Kenya and the Masa Mara during the migration it your best bet...but you won't be alone.

It's been said over and over - there are no guarantees when it comes to the animals. We're on their territory and they do as they please regardless what we hoped for or what one pays.

It also can depend on the time of year you visit, whether there is water available, whether there have been fires and on and on. Alot of things can impact your experience

But as "leoville" mentions, if you want large herds, then it's migration in the Mara and even with that you cannot be guaranteed in seeing a "crossing".

A friend was in the Mara in '02 during migration for 10-days and "did not" see a crossing.

Why not do a search for migration postings and see what the experiences were. This might be it for you.

And note that the game viewing experience is different in East Africa than Southern Africa. Not necessarily better, but different.
