What would you do for two weeks in Morocco?

We will be arriving in Marrakesh from Paris and departing from Marrakesh too. We would like to spend there some time, at this point we don't know how many days.

I do appreciate your help in my initial stage of planning.
We like to focus on history, culture, architecture, people, outdoor activities. Is april good time to be there?

We also thinking about getting to Fez. Again how many days there?
Any ideas how to get there if we want to avoid public buses?

From some posts here I gathered that getting to some beach resort would be a nice way to spend 2-3 days. But where?

Finally, what guidebook for Morroco did you find most helpful?
Thanks
Gina

I've done this in 12 days. Marrakesh for three to four days. Zagora 2 days.
Essouara (2 or 3 nights) I would buy all my material things here, cheaper than other cities. Essoara to Casa(1 night) by bus. Casa to rabat Rabat to meknes abd Fez. Take the train back to Marakesh, overnight or day train. I had a very hassle free trip. Good luck.

you might want to have a look at our write ups on Morocco at
www.i-escape.com/morocco.php

we have written details reviews of our favourite small hotels in Marrakech, Essaouira, Atlas and desert etc as well as ideas of routes to take.

You can take the train from Marrakesh to Fez. I would stop in Meknès too, both for that city and to see Volubilis. What's wrong with public buses? We took local buses from Fez to nearby market towns (still 2 hours from Fez) with no problems, and the long distance bus from Fez to Marrakesh is a first class bus comparable to the long distance buses in Mexico.

Hello

There are many beautiful and haunting areas in Morocco. 2 weeks may be too long to concentrate only on Fez & Marakesh.

You could try to join an escorted tour that covers Rabat, Erfoud, Ourzazatte and Essouira as well as fez & Marakesh.

Otherwise 4 days and 3 nights in Marakesh and the same in Fez should be enough. I recommend visiting the Saadian Tombs in Marakesh, The Museum of Morrocan Art, the menara Gardens, the Koutoubia minaret, the Bahia Palace (contains some extraordinary tiles o[pulent courtyards and sparkling fountains)Take a stroll through Djemaa el fna square which is a never ending show of fortune tellers, snake charmers, magicians. In Fez take in the Karouine Mosque and the Dyers Tannery.

Hope this helps

Sorry i also meant to add that the best and hassle free way to get between cities is a flight. Buses are unreliable and a private car transfer will take many hours.
