What to pay for airfare to S. Africa
We are flying LAX-CPT on September 2, 2008 and returning JNB-LAX on September 22, 2008. Kayak currently shows this rate around $1600.00. Is this good, bad or indifferent?
We also need to fly CPT to Maputo and Maputo-JNB later in the trip. How best to book these flights?
Thanks for the help. Your trip reports are invaluable. It's a little overwhelming to plan a trip to Africa with 4 months before departure, I appreciate any advise.

For about $300 more than if from NYC, then the $1,600 is a very good fare. Certainly better fare than if traveling to East Africa.
Contact Premier Tours out of Phila, PA at www.premiertours.com
They have an "air" department that often has great fares. Website isn't always current, so best to call the 800# for current info/fares for when you wish to travel. Also check with them re the Maputo flights.

That's a pretty good price. I got my September SFO-JNB-SFO for $1500 on vayama.com $600 less than the SAA website.
The SAA website is showing CPT-MPM-JNB at R3196 or $420 U.S. (If checking on the SAA website, on the opening page click South Africa in the "select a country" box and continue to look for flights)

extremly favourable fare!
from germany you pay almost 1000€ which is the equivalent to your fare. maputo can be done as add-on. your TA will book this for you easily.
think of enough transit time (at least 3 hrs!) in JNB which is a nightmare right now.

The domestic terminal at JNB is actually quite nice and you won't need nearly 3 hours to check in. Go in, look for Maputo on the board and it will tell you which check-in station to go to. Stand in line, get your ticket, check your bags, easy security checkpoint, down the ramp and wait for the bus to take you to your flight. Now the international check-in is a different matter all together.

No problem, my friends daughter whom we are visiting, wants us just to book our international flights so we can be more flexible when we get there. I guess she'll deal with the internal flights as they come up. Does this sound reasonable?
