I run an environmental sciences consulting firm, mainly dealing with toxic substances in the environment, and assessing and remediating contaminated (Superfund -- anybody remember that term?) sites.

Retired journalist for a major newspaper. Definitely not boring. But exhausting. Now I sleep in. And dream of Africa.

What a coincidence. I was just thinking about this thread today. I hope it surfaces every now and then so I can keep track of it and eventually write something like LALeslie just wrote The retirement part, not the journalist part.

This is my first post on Fodors although I have visited often. I am a photographer. Was raised in Uganda and Kenya before being sent to boarding school in South Australia many years ago. Took the family back to Kenya in 2005 to show them my old house, school and other haunts. Realized that the magic of my childhood was still there all these years later despite all the changes and dire predictions of friends. Returned again earlier this year for 1 week for birthday celebrations and am busy planning the next trip for whenever I can afford it.
Very interesting hearing other travellers stories and views on places I want to visit as I have no friends who travel to Africa.

i just love that the people here do those jobs that you don't know you want to do when you are a kid...and that they walk in a different life than I. It makes the world feel a little bit more realistic....and fun.

Thanks for brightening my day:)
