What made you go to Africa for the first time?

Took my two sons in 1992 as a graduation trip from high school. Teenage boys would rather be with their friends than with Mom. I figured they could not turn down an African Safari. I've been back 8 times since. Going again this coming May.

I joined the Peace Corps in 1991 after my husband passed away.I was 56 years old and had never been out of North America.Peace Corps sent me to Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa. This was one of the best things that ever happened to me for many reasons. I have traveled in 91 countrys since then, usually buy myself.I love Africa and the people

Kelly, that must have been a momentous decision for you at a hard time. Thank you for telling us about it. Where have you been to since and what is your special skill? I imagine that in the Peace Corps, like VSO, you have to have one these days.
But it just goes to show that it doesn't matter whether you are 20 (me) or 56 (you) the continent has a special pull and a special magic.

Forgot, my first trip to Africa was camping in Morocco in 1970. My brother was living in Gstaad, Switzerland being a ski bum and delivering groceries to Grace Kelly, among others. My parents and I flew over to meet them. We drove around Switzerland and Bavaria and sent them off to the rest of Germany.
We planned to stay in Spain, but the rain in sprain did not stay mainly on the plane, so we went looking for better weather. Hooked up with a newlywed Australian couple adn decided to go to MOrocco. Had a fabulous time. I'm going back in a month & catching the places I didn't see them.
