Trying to plan a budget for upcoming trip. I am wondering what to budget for Meals at average priced places, in CapeTown,
Johannesburg and Victoria Falls areas. We will want to eat at nice places, but where casual dress is ok.Just looking for idea of costs in Rand.

Extremely greatful for any info.

Hi Dottie-
I just came across this today. Go to www.e-gnu.com. Then go to the bottom of the page as far as you can scroll. There in small blue letters are a lot of options. Click on "Money & Foreign Exchange". Under that heading it will take you to a page that might give you an idea of what to allow for meals. E-Gnu is based in South Africa. Lots of info on their pages. Hope it helps. Liz

Dottie, we ate at many nice wineries and restaurants in CapeTown and were just amazed at the prices. The exchange rate was 8.2 at the time. Anyway, we could have a nice dinner with a GOOD bottle of wine for $30.

Dottie, you will be pleasantly surprised at your meal tabs. And they tend to dress casually in Cape Town at nice restaurants, so don't worry.

Just returned a two weeks ago from spending several days in Cape Town. To put matters in perspective, the most expensive meal we had (at the One Waterfront restaurant in the Cape Grace Hotel-- a wonderful meal and impeccable service) came to $140 (or about R1,000) for four persons including wine and tips. Considering that this a high end restaurant, you can budget certainly lower than this for CPT, somewhere in the range of R175 ($23) per person including wine in an average/above average establishment with wine. In addition, all places were casual.
