What area/Hotel to stay for 1 night in Johannesburg
We will be arriving in Johannesburg for a 1 night stay at the end of a 3 week stay in Southern Africa. Looking for clean, well located hotel for this night.
Our flight leaves the following day for home at 8:40 p.m. so this gives us the full day to do a Soweto tour. Also, it is a Sunday, so I lean towards Rosebank for the craft market.
Assuming we need to be at the airport at 6:40 for the 8:40 flight, I assume we can hit the craft market bright and early and then do a Soweto tour. Is this correct?
What would be a good, safe hotel/guest house for this plan. Is Rosebank the best area? We are in the $100.00 - $125.00 a night for both of us price range.

The Grace Hotel isn't in your price range, but has a private entrance right into the mall next door. The Rosebank Sunday Market is held on the rooftop of the mall's parking garage. For less expensive lodging, you might look at one of the Southern Sun hotels near the airport, such as the SS Garden Court or the SS OR Tambo Airport Hotel. You could book a driver for your day in Joburg and have them give you a tour of Soweto and go to the Market.

The Courtyard Rosebank is also a little out of your price range ($150/pn for 2 people) but it's a nice place and very convenient to Rosebank Mall. (You just walk outside the gate of the hotel and there's an elevated walkway across the highway and you're there.)
There is a free "happy hour" every evening in the lounge (which looks more like a home library) and the staff is very friendly and helpful. If you have a car, there is covered, secure parking. Each room also has a small kitchenette if you wish to refrigerate some drinks or prepare a small snack. (There's a supermarket at the Rosebank Mall.)

Thanks, our budget is not etched in stone, so I will look into the Courtyard. I am also checking on Doves Nest Guest house mentioned in an older post by Tom.
As far as a guide goes, I think if we stay at the Courtyard we will just need a guide/driver for Soweto and the museum. Any recommendations?

I would not be surprised if you could not arrange a drive/guide thorugh the hotel. As I mentioned, the Courtyard staff was very helpful to us, so you might want to contact them when you make your reservation to see if they can recommend or arrange a guide for you.
