What are weather conditions & game viewing in Ndutu?

We will be at Ngorngoro Crater Feb. 3 & 4 then on a mobile tent safari in Ndutu for 3 nights with CCAfrica. We are concerned about recent rain and muddy conditions. Any recent travelers out there who know the impact of the weather conditions on migration and calving season? Is it a mess over there and should we consider postponing until it drys out or continue with plans to go?

Please cancel! We need the extra rooms!

Just kidding; please don't be concerned! The approach roads are worse than the immediate roads around the lake but cars are getting in/out with few problems.

CCA just moved down there (on the 8th I believe) from Seronera so if their trucks can make it you won't have problems.

It is incredible there now!

Eben,
Any news about Olakira? Have they set up camp?
We are going to be at Olakira in the first week of February. After reading all your posts as well as the one from Ndutu lodge we are so looking forward to our stay there.Looks like we are in for a real treat. I wish we had planned a longer stay. This is our first visit there.

Gilliard, my Maasai partner will be at TUC at Ndutu from Jan 26 onwards with clients. He will txt me about conditions and I will post here.

I was there just a few weeks ago and Giiard has been there every week since. No problems to speak of.

The vegetation (grass in particuliar) is growing fast so mud around the tents at the camps we use have not been problemmatic.

See my pics here of Olakira at Ndutu taking a few weeks ago (the green shots). As you can see, no mud!

Worldtrek-

I am right behind you. I am visiting the crater on Feb 17th and 18th and then Tanzania Under Canvas Feb 19th-22nd. Snow wouldn't keep me away (that is as long as I didn't have to shovel it!)

Eben:
Thanks for the reply and for the link to the pictures!
Do you know if the Seronera Airstrip is open now or still closed for maintenance. We have heard that the drive (if airstrip closed) from N. Crater to Ndutu can be up to 5 hours.
