Whale Watching in Hermanus - early March
Hi there,
I've tried to look into when whales can be seen from land at Hermanus in SA. While it seems like July to December is the time to see the whales in Hermanus, is there any chance of seeing whales in the area in early March or is it wishful thinking? We'll be in the area in March and am wondering if we should include this as a side in our itinerary from Cape Town. Many thanks... |
Flyingaway2,
I think your chances of seeing whales in Hermanus in March are close to 0% but dont let this deter you from visiting this wonderful litte town as it has much else to offer in March such as a great beach, fantastic vibe and lots of great little surrounding villages to explore. Enjoy our country when you visit us. Very proudly part of the wonderful ((r))nation of South Africa |
I agree with Selwyn...I would go back to Hermanus in a heartbeat, even if the whales weren't there(although it does make it more exciting!). I would HIGHLY recommend Pelagus House as an amazing guesthouse, and dine at Quayside Cabin...in fact, those are two big reasons for me to want to go back!!!

Thank you both so much - we look forward to visiting Hermanus and seeing all that it has to offer.
Thanks again... |
There is a lot less than 0% chance of seeing whales in Hermanus in March, the earliest arrivals are in June/July. Other than that it's just another seaside town spoilt by overdevelopment.
