Weak American Dollar in South Africa?

Hi,
I am traveling to Cape Town, S.A from June- Aug., but I will be flying from Europe. I was wondering what was the best wa to maximize my currency.

Should I convert my American dollars upon arriving to Africa?

Or should I get Euros or pounds, bring them to S. A. and then make an exchange with their currency.

Any advice?

I think the way to go is to get cash from ATM's in country after determining what charges your bank will levy.

We're going to South Africa in 7 weeks. Our travel agent recommended doing tha ATM thing or exchanging money when we get there. Said we will get a better exchange rate. Since there is always the risk of losing money with each exchange, I don't know if changing to euros would be a help, due to their strength, or would hurt (extra changes).
