We're leaving for Egypt on the 29th. All last minute suggestions welcome!

Unilike most other trips, this is pretty spontaneous but also our first tour. Because we decided on Egypt recently, I haven't had any chance to read up, but at the same time I've never gone on a package tour before. We're taking the Grand Circle Tour: 5 days in Cairo at the Marriott (just learned that the Cadogan guide doesn't like it much) and then 7 on the Nile, from Aswan to Esna (instead of Luxor as originally promised). I've posted a few messages, gotten probably too many injections, but would appreciate any last minute (er, day) advice, suggestions, etc.

Comfortable shoes; light weight clothings; a jacket or shawl for cool evenings; drink plenty of water (bottled); a hat (strong sun); sun screen; wear shorter shorts and swimsuits on the cruise; slacks, crop pants, and covered upper arm while in Cairo, the Museum, restaurants; walking shorts ok at Pyramids, Giza, Memphis, Sakkara; have plenty of USD in small denominations $1, $5, $10; the exchange rate is set by the govt so will be same everywhere; have plenty of film; don't forget camera batteries (even have a second camera (just in case); be prepared for some early morning sightseeing; if Tomb of Nefratari is open in Valley of the Queens - do pay the extra to visit (it's amazing); do see a Light & Sound Show (Pyramids, Philae, or Luxor); have a small flashlight for inside tombs or walking at night; bargain for everything; go with a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.

As far as the inoculations - they all serve you just as well back at home.
Enjoy your holiday and do post a report when you return.

As usual, Sandi has refined her suggestions to the concise necessities.

Bring some basic over the counter medications - for upset stomach, diarrhea, cold, minor cuts - there are pharmacies but who knows what some of that stuff is.

Be really careful about what you eat - make sure bottled water is in an unbroken sealed bottle. Avoid raw fruits, veggies, ice cubes. Be careful on buffets, although those on cruise whould be OK.

Buy a guide book to read on the pane home - it helps fill you in on history you missed the first time around.

Be prepared to tip for everything (one Egyptian pound is still about 25 cents, so it doesn't cost much), enjoy attempts to charmingly scam you (one adorable kid offered stuffed camels to my daughter - at $1 each, or 3 for $5).

Have a great trip. If you ride a camel, take lots of photos and be prepared to tip so the guy lets you off the camel. (We skipped the camel ride - they looked nasty)
