warmest place in Canary Islands in January with great scenery

we will be in Spain In January/Feb and thought it would be a shame not to visit one of the Canary Islands for 5 to 7 days . Can anyone recommend the "warmest area" to stay. Also the most scenic. The town of Masca (?) in Tenerife looks pretty amazing!! Where would you stay to visit that town? I know, that's lots of questions!

Thanks......Randy from Canada

The Canaries will be appreciably warmer than most of mainland Spain in Jan/Feb time. The islands are volcanic and the scenery is spectacular because of that. I'd avoid Tenerife unless you're into drinking and drugs though. The south side of the island, where the weather is warmer is much like that. masca is on the NW tip of the island, where the weather can be quite uncertain, although it is a picturesque place.

Lanzarote is very volcanic, with lots of activity still going on in the Timanfaya area. Carmen and Teguise are the touristy bits.

Fuertenventura is not spectacularly scenic, but should be quite good weather wise. Gran Canary is a nice island, but don't stay in the Playa del Ingles area, which is party central.

The other islands are, largest to smallest: La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montaña Clara. They are quite small and quite quiet. It all depends on what you're looking for?

We'll be in Las Palmas for a few hours off a cruise ship on Mar. 1. Does anyone have a suggestion for seeing the island without using the ship's excursion. We llike to plan with local guides or tours. Thanks for any help you may have.

You'll be on La Palma I take it - Las Palmas is a city on Gran Canaria.

The "city" of Santa Cruz de La Palma is a nice place to wander around - it has some nice architecture and churches, plus plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. I assume the excursion is to the volcano rather than to the Caldera?
How many hours do you have exactly? Would you be happy hiring a car? (They are pretty cheap on La Palma).

If you can tell me that I may be able to suggest other places to visit.

Oh and the Canaries are usually included in Europe rather than Africa .

Thanks for replying. The itinerary says we have from 1pm to 7:30PM but of course you usually have to be back to the ship an hour before departure. I guess we could rent a car. There might be 6 of us. I haven't spoken to the other two couples about what they want to do, but I will see them later on this week. With a car what could we fit in. I just want to see everything wnen travelling. We don't need to spend time having liesurely meals. We can do that at home.
