visitig south africa

Okay, I have bee reading all the posts about the high crime in South Africa, and now I am really worried! My daughter is a Peace Corps Volunteer there, northeast South Africa, and she has already been mugged once. She wants me to come visit in March, and I am planning to go. After reding all the blogs, maybe I should just beg her to return to the USA?

You should there is hardly any crime there!

I don't know how dangerous it is there, but if she has already been mugged, how can it be said that 'there is hardly any crime there!'? ((*))

My answer referred to USA where apparently she would be safe!

lesanne,

Wht dont you simply take whatever advice and suggestions your daughter gives you, after all is'nt she is on the ground at the place where you will be visiting?

Just curious.

Lesanne, I suggest you look at the US State Department information about South Africa, rather than relying on the personal anecdotes and opinions that you get here.

Celia,

Whilst I agree with you that reading the anecdotal advise on this page should be viewed with circumspect reading the State Department reports is equivalent to the exact opposite. If I had to take my cue off these reports then I would not step out of my Cape Town front door each day. Hate to say this but the state department reports cover virtually everything to simply cover the department's back be it true, anecdotal or false. Ever heard of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! :'(

Lesanne my advice still remains speak to your daughter after all she is and has been living where you will be travelling on your vacation.

Just my twopence worth.

I can't argue with that (since I have no idea what it means).

I agree with Tuck I have no idea what he is talking about, and even though I am proudly South African this litlle " Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa" on every page is getting to be a little annoying.

Selwyn respect other people why do we always have to turn everything into an argument?
