Visit Zambia after Botswana? suggestions needed
 

I am planning a trip next June in Botswana, 6 or 7 nights (Khwai River Lodge near Moremi Game Reserve, Eagle Island Lodge on the Okavengo Delta, Savute Elephant Camp near Chobe National Park) and want to extend possibly into Zambia. oan

At this point, I am a little flexible on the number of nights in Zambia, but probably not more than 3-5 nights.

I am looking for suggestions on what part to focus on in Zambia… should I include Victoria Falls or concentrate on another area in Zambia? Or would you recommend another area in Botswana?

Also, any information on traveling logistics to Zambia would be helpful (I am assuming I have to return to Maun in order to fly to Zambia?).

I have posted this on other Africa sites besides Botswana/Zambia in order to get as much info as possible.

We spent 9 nights in Botswana in June 2006 and then went on to Victoria Falls for two nights. We then took a flight from Livingstone to Lusaka (Zambia) and on to Mfuwe. We spent 5 nights at Robin Pope camps (Nsefu and Tena Tena). Looking back this turned out to be a wonderful itinerary and I wouldn't have changed anything. You don't have to go back to Maun in order to contine to Zambia. With only an additonal 3-5 nights in Zambia, you will be a little rushed to do Victoria Falls and South Luangwa. If at all possible, add a day or two and do both as you won't regret it.

Yes, you can do a land transfer from Chobe to Zambia. You shouldn't need more than one night in Livingstone to see the Falls. I don't know if there are any direct air flights from there to any of the safari areas. You might check with the safari company you'll be using. In addition to South Luangwa NP, you might consider the Lower Zambezi NP, which is a beautiful area on the Zambezi River. That would be a different environment.

If seeing Vic Falls is on your list, then a night there would be a nice opportunity. Another 3-4 nts in the Lower Zambezi would make an outstanding extension if you would like to canoe and walk.

If you are not interested in canoeing but would like to walk, then I'd go to South Luangwa in Zambia.

If you want to remain in the vehicle, I'd stay in Botswana for game viewing--maybe add the Kalahari for something different. You could start in the Kalahari and end at Vic Falls, which might work best logistically.

An interesting addition to Chobe that I am interested in is to head to Namibia (right next door) to Savanna Camp where you do all game viewing along the Chobe River by boat. I believe about 2 nights there would be good.

Or just stay more days ate the camps you have.

I agree with Raelond of adding a day or two if possible. But realize that is not always possible.

I am considering skipping Victoria Falls, any other recommendations to extend my trip beyond the the 3 camps on my list (whether it's in Botswana or a different country).

There are so many different places you can go, places to stay.

You could go to Hippo Lodge in Kafue NP. for a couple days. www.hippolodge.com

Then take the banana boat(trasfer) to Lufupa Lodge for a few more days. Wilderness Safaris

i see you are doing the orient express lodges in bot.

i then would definately go up to livingstone and stay at tongabezi/sindabezi or stanleys safari lodge and from there i would do 3 nts. either lower zambesi (sausage tree is my favourite) or south luangwa (here my choise would be tena tena).
