We paln to visit Jordon in March.Can you suggest a tour operator.What would be the weather like ?

We also used Desert Horizons with a different driver and loved both him and our trip to Jordan.The prices were very good compared to other companies. We got them from Lady Egypt within our trip that year.

We have booked with Petra Night Tours for January. So far they have been very easy to deal with on the internet, but we have not yet travelled with them. I will report back in February when we get back.

We booked our tour from Canada and our agent subcontracted with Dakkak Tours in Jordan. I understand that it is one of the largest agencies in Jordan and it caters to business people though it does arrange private tours. We were fully escorted and private for eight days last March. We had a great trip. The temperature in Aman and locations north (i.e. Um Qais) was cool- about 12 celcius or 62 farenheit, sometimes cloudy and misty-no heavy rain. When the sun was out, the temperatures were warm but not hot.. Things got warmer as we went south. The Dead Sea was pleasant-we were able to swim-the water was fine and we did not freeze when we came out. In March the temperature in Petra was perfect: very cool in the morning (we started at 8 am) and quite warm by the afternoon. Evenings were cool. We spent overnight in a bedouin camp in Wadi Rum. The day was warm but it was cold at night. Bring polar fleece or cashmere for sleeping. My husband wore layers of cotton and he was cold whereas my son and I were cozy and warm under the bedouin woollen blankets in our tent. Aqaba was lovely and sunny but a sweater is required in the evening. Hope this helps! We loved Jordan-it was a last minute substitute for our planned trip to Egypt and we enjoyed it immensely!

Hmm... I don't know where everyone is from here; but I'm from the lovely country England (country of stale beer and the likes) so I have some information from there...

Two years ago I have been to Petra (most brilliant, and touristic?, place in Jordan) with Mosaic Holidays (http://www.mosaicholidays.co.uk/Coun...lidays_12.aspx for those too lazy to search) and it was rather nice. I went in April, which was quite warm and we had some rain yes... but that was nothing compared to England really.

So yes, I would imagine that March is slightly colder (still enjoyably warm) and just as 'wet' (still very dry really...). One of the benefits of these periods is, is that there are less tourists and it is less busy.
Though, don't get me wrong... Petra was still busy; it just could have been worse.

And yes, like pirouette said: bring something warm for the evenings, they are chilly outside.

Get quotes and also consider travelling independently. I did a short trip in '08. I used a car and driver from a firm operating from the hotel lobby to arrange a day trip to Jerash on my first day. On the second day we took the Kings highway to Petra, stopping at Madaba, Kerak and Mt Nebo en-route. I stayed overnight in Petra/Wadi Musa, saw Petra the following day and returned via the desert highway that evening.

It may be dearer now; in 2006 the two-day Petra trip cost JD160 for the car and driver; that compared favourably with tours and taxis.

We were there in October and used Petra Select. Also known, I believe, as Jordan Select. We had a very good experience with them. I planned our itinerary and made most of the bookings. They supplied a wonderful driver, Ibrahim, and a car. Ibrahim was terrific. Was very, very punctual, full of great advice and background on the country, very flexible and helpful when we wanted to alter things on the fly. He always had bottles of ice water in the car for us and his car even had a HOT SPOT!!!! Nothing crazier than driving through the desert and Skyping our sons back at home and showing them the camels out the window of the car on the laptop.

Have a great trip. We loved Jordan.

I now have 7nights and 8 days in Jordon from the second week of March..Can you suggest a must see itinery? I was planning for Amman 2 N Petra 2N Aquaba 1 N and Dead sea 2 N .But then I miss out a night in Wadi Rum and Jerash.Any suggestions.

We are not long back from a trip which included 1st - 6th January in Jordan. An amazing trip! Absolutely LOVED Jordan!

Day 1. We flew in after dark and spent the first night in Madaba (but Amman would have been equally suitable). As we had only a short trip from Spain to Jordan (4hours) jetlag was not a factor in our trip planning.

Day 2. A full day travelling to Petra. Initially along the Kings Highway - saw mosaics at Madaba, Mt Nebo, Wadi Mujib and Karak Castle. Then we cut into the faster Desert Highway to Petra. Overnight Petra.

Day 3. Full day at Petra. Had a guide for the morning who was extremely insightful. He also planned out a suggested program for the rest of that day and the following day which worked really well for us. Overnight at Petra.

Day 4. Full day at Petra on our own. Overnight at Petra.

Day 5. Drove to Wadi Rum for a 4 hour jeep drive through the Desert. Then drove to Dead Sea, arriving unfortunately after dark. Overnight at Dead Sea.

Day 6. Full day to Ajloun and Jerash (via Amman for some quick business), with late flight out of Amman airport.

If I could have done anything differently, I would have added another night at the Dead Sea. The hotel had a policy of no swimming after dark or before 9am. We arrived after dark and left at 8am the next morning. We negotiated with the hotelfor a swim at 6:30am. It was magical!! Sun was just rising and we were the only people down on the beach! Something I will never forget, but would have liked some more time to enjoy the experience.

We chose not to spend a night in Wadi Rum - read some mixed reviews about the Desert Camping experiences, and being keen on my comfort ..... well, camping was not a priority. Using our itinerary, you could add a night at Wadi Rum, and get to the Dead Sea in the early afternoon. Half a day at the Dead Sea would be a fair compromise if a night in the desert is a priority.

Cannot comment on Aqaba. We come from Australia, so Aqaba was never on our list of places to go.

Cannot comment on Amman (2 nights??). We are not really "city" people, but far prefer to get into the countryside.

We are fit and healthy and enjoy walking, and would definately say 2 full days in Petra was ideal. For people less keen on walking (and thousands of steps!!) a full day would give you a good taste - but we would certainly not have swapped our second day in Petra for anything else!!

Unanimous family highlights were Petra, Kings Highway scenery (Mt Nebo views, Wadi Mujib) and Wadi Rum, although my husband would put Kerak Castle and Jerash right up there as well!

Logistics. We booked a car and driver through Petra Night Tours, and they included a guide for half a day at Petra, and for our last full day. The guide on the last day was really good - not only did he give us all the historical facts for the day, but was very personable and gave us a great insight into Jordanian life!

Petra Night Tours were very good! We had a change of drivers in Petra - there were some hiccups with the changeover (first driver left without making sure of our pickup details the next day for the new driver). However, we had a 24 hour emergency number for PNT - called them and they quickly sorted things out. In reality we did not need a driver for the 2 full days we were in Petra. You can either stay right at the entrance to Petra, or in town as we did. Taxis are common, but we did walk between town and Petra site.

Personally, if you are short of time trying to fit everything in, I would "steal" days from Amman and add them in elsewhere.

Did you book only the car and driver and guide separately through Petra Night tours or the entire package?Their charges seem to be reasonable.Also did you pay in advance?

We booked the package - hotels, car, driver, entrance fee and half day guide for Petra, entrance fees for Jerash and guide on last day. We looked at their suggested hotels and made a few changes based on our own research. We paid a 25% deposit in advance, and the balance after arrival in Jordan - in fact we did not end up paying until the last day as we wanted to pay by credit card and we needed to go to their office in Amman to do that. We felt their prices were reasonable, and had a really good trip.

Our week in Jordan was part of a 7 week holiday (France, Spain, Jordan and Egypt). We enjoyed the entire trip, but we unanimously agree that Jordan was the highlight for us!!

You spent 3 nights in Petra.I have 7 nights to spare.I have plans of 2 nights in Dead Sea,1 N in Aquaba.Since I am flying into Amman ,the first night has to be in Amman.Should I spend the second night in. Amman or .
Petra as you did.Please advice

Petra. Not at lot to see in Amman, except Jerash. Petra is much more than the Sanctuary you see in the pictures.

It is hard to advise exactly what you should do as I don't know what kinds of things you like, if you enjoy hiking, if visiting cities and mosques is important to you, etc. Neither do I know what the weather is like in Jordan in March - I always think it is easier to do things in cities when the weather is miserable, although by choice I would choose destinations outside cities.

All I can say is that our family (2 adults aroung 50 and 2 teenage university students) would not have change 2 full days in Petra for anything. To get 2 full days we needed 3 nights. Petra is a large site - I read something like 264000 square meters. It is about 2km to walk in and about 2km to walk out, before actually seeing the site. We certainly did not see everything in Petra, and easily filled 2 days. But there was a LOT of walking and a LOT of stairs involved!

If I had 2 extra nights, I would certainly have addded a night in the Dead Sea, and possibly a night in the desert (Wadi Rum). As I have said, we read mixed reviews about the desert camps, but I am sure it would have been amazing to see it at sunset and sunrise. The silence in the desert was indescribable too.

Personally, I would not have spent any extra time in Amman, but as I have not explored Amman I cannot know what I may have been missing.

WE will spend 3 N in Petra.Planning to stay in Movenpick Nabetean Castle.However it is a bit far from town.is there regular bus or taxis to take me to town centre in the evenings ?

If you haven't committed to the hotel yet, the Crowne Plaza is the closest possible hotel to Petra's entrance and a short walk to the shops.

I have booked with PNT.Amman 1n Petra 3N Aquaba 1N Dead sea 2n.We do Ptra for a day and Little Petra for the next day.I also have plans to do Petra by night.Like you I also had mixed reviews for spending the night in Wadi Rum and fonally gave in to comforts of Movenpick Resort.Also is 2 hour drive in Wadi Rum enough or sohuld I make it 4 hour.
